These mag sumps can be welded with good results, I have a 5 bolt with a weld repair for sale exchange.
Tungsten Inert Gas welding was invented to weld Mag during WWII, temp control is important during cool down they will crack during this period.

My project is a 48 S/N 18253, I guess I'll be building one, I was hoping to go the easy route.

My project has had the original plastic instrument panel removed, that's the area that looks like a checker board.

I just had a talk with Tom Anderson, he gave me these as prices for the IO-360 mod. $1500 for the engineering, $30 for a set of prints, $5000 for an engine mount, $500 for a header tank.
