Re: Cessna 170 Resale values
The Tri-Pacer can be sporty, but not like the 170 which is so sweet, light, and responsive on the controls, and trying to get one of the Pipers above 8,000' can be a challenge. My personal opinion of the Clipper/ Pacer/ Tri Pacer is the same as a Seneca- they do nothing well. I didn’t even consider...

Re: Cessna 170 Resale values
Obviously a J3 and a C170 were designed in different times for different missions. Comparing apples to apples, and having flown both a PA-16 Clipper and a PA-20 Pacer, I’ll take a C170 over either, and twice on Sunday. To me there’s just no comparison in handling or ergonomics. I know both of those ...

Re: ELT Upgrade..?? ...or Not...??
I don’t think 121.5 is being monitored now, except by a few conscientious pilots on Comm 2. Even then they were so prone to false activation that they’re ignored as much as they’re reported. My airplane came with a 405 already in it and if it hadn’t I would have put one in it. Like many other things...

Gear Leg Conformity
The gear legs on my ‘55 have what appears to me a slight “sag.” George and I have been discussing them and I haven’t seen a spec on how much is too much. The left is approx 3/32” and the right is about 1/8,” with full fuel and no other ballast. Before I contact one of the shops about a reman, I’m cu...

Re: A new contender for the 172/170
Unfortunately the economies of scale work against us vs. the above examples.
Aviation is just too small a community (and shrinking) to “make it up in volume.”

7.00 x 6 Hubcaps
My 170B has Cleveland 7.00 x 6 wheels installed. Eventually I'd like to find some wheel pants that will fit them, but until then I'd like to find some hubcaps. I intended to make my own but the tube stem sticks out far enough I'm afraid a flat cover would put it in too much of a bind. Any idea where...

Re: New Member
A too old Apollo GPS and a Garmin 30 Nav/Com. Figure I’ll wait until after the ADS-B deadline when prices decline and give it the works. I’ve heard about the “third Thurs.” in MCW but never had occasion to make it. I think Shane from PEA attends occasionally. The airplane is hangered in Ottumwa, clo...

Re: New Member
I’d post a pic but it says file too large and I’m not smart enough to change.
Dropped brother and sister in law off in Des Moines to get my car from picking up the airplane. Ground Controller asked what kind if airplane that was, and we ended up getting a tour of the tower.

Hi, y'all! New member/ owner. I'm the next caretaker of N2993D, a '55. The two previous owners were also members here. I brought it home to Iowa from South Carolina yesterday- beautiful skies but a little more wind than I would have preferred. 28 years ago I owned a 120 and when I decided to jump ba...
