Re: A little extra incentive...
I’m not the most experienced in icy/snow packed runways but I have operated out of the New England area mostly for the last thirty years and my experience matches yours. Hit your speeds, fly the airplane and don’t plan on breaking action. That said, winter flying brings it’s own special beauty. Keep...

Re: New Member in CT
So back to the welcomes, Drew thanks for helping to put on the Waterbury fly in. I think we met on Sunday afternoon when I flew in with my son Mike. Please let me know if you are ever coming by Skylark. Love to come out and say hello. Sounds like we are starting to have a pretty good group of 170 fl...

Re: First Annual Done
The borescope approach is definitely something to do. If you are changing your own oil you can do a pretty good job at the borescope next time in the hangar. Go to Dean Showalter’s excellent website (and Podcast) Airplaneownermaintenance.com. He’s got great advice on which unit to buy and how to rea...

Re: 170 CFI in CT/NY/New England Area
Bob, I sent you an email regarding some folks I know in our area. By the way great work in getting your son flying in your 170. My son Mike and I have flown together a lot and he's ready to start the same journey your son sounds like he is about ready to complete. Best wishes. BTW, Mike and I may st...

Re: New 170 Owner Introduction
Welcome. I share your enthusiasm for flight and for sharing it with the family. I wish I could have had a 170 when my children were in the age bracket yours are now. Well done! George is right. The 170 is an economical machine. Work with your mechanic and get to know her and she will treat your fami...

Rich, Hey nice to virtually meet a Brookhaven guy. I'm at Skylark in Ct with a 52 'B model as well. Sounds like you've got one sweet plane that you have brought up to date very nicely. I'm sure we will hear each other some evening or Saturday on 122.8. Come on up to Skylark any time we are a friendl...

Re: Maintenance Induced Emotional Roller Coaster
Glad you got her flying. Old airplanes will give you a lot of ups and downs for sure. Eventually the ups will start to outweigh the downs! Stick with it and consider it the price you pay to really take ownership of your bird. Getting to know your new machine is an important part of the ownership ex...

Dave,
Thanks exactly what I needed. I was pretty sure there was some good “gouge” on this forum for most any repair. Cheers!

Replacing the rudder-break pedal tension springs
Turns out I broke one of these. My first indication was that with no feet on the pedals the airplane’s nose was skewed right approximately one ball width in level flight. Also when parked on the ground the rudder was off to the right with the tailwheel centered. Finally the slack left rudder pedal a...

Re: New Owner!
Jim,
Welcome. I’m a fairly new owner but happy to say that 150+ hours in I’m very happy with my 52 model 170B. Lots of great stuff to learn here. Enjoy the flying. Cheers!

Re: Fuel valve rebuild and manual mistake WARNING
During the annual we started just last week we found that fuel does not shut off fully when in the off position. I think it’s time for a rebuild of the selector valve on my ‘52 B model SN 20746. I’ve already ordered the McFarlane kit with the O rings and gasket and read this entire post plus George’...

Re: What did you buy for your 170 today?
This is one of my favorite reads on this site. I owe your folks a proper entry but I've bought a bunch of things for 94D mostly triggered by my prop strike on a very windy crosswind day in March of last year ... that's a two beer story. Anyway tonight by the time I got to page four of this post I ha...
