Re: 75th Reunion Celebration group parking at Airventure 202

Some came early and were parked outside of the reserved spots even though they were on the List. Once parked they were content to stay put. Really fun to be amongst so many as we have highly polished and highly faded paint jobs. We have highly modified and plain Janes. Lots of different paint scheme...

Re: 2023 Cessna 170 Convention, Sault Ste. Marie Michigan

I’m not that smart George. Might have to pitch a tent at the airport. Oh Ken Peck and I are recovering in ANJ ready room after a day of IFR, the smoke at times unbelievable and there not many roads this way

Re: Original Paint schemes

At last years convention our master judge Bruce Fenstermacher contracted Covid and a replacement judge (white cane in hand) was pressed into service. I tapped my way around our airplanes (Bruce has tied to school me in the past as much as he could) and did the best I could do. In the past Steve J. w...

Re: 75th Reunion Celebration group parking at Airventure 202

George, I didn’t know I had a following until a few friends mentioned they had been watching my progress across the USA last year. Kind of neat that you can see where your friends are and predict when they’ll show up at the convention.

Re: 75th Reunion Celebration group parking at Airventure 202

Agree, last year they wanted the transponder on. ADSB great when getting near Oshkosh, but once nearing the Conga line, I’d forget about it. At that point everything should be in your head, frequencies set in the radios and be on your watch. Some interesting flying can be observed in that line. I’ve...

Re: 75th Reunion Celebration group parking at Airventure 202

I thought in the past they wanted transponders off when in the approach areas. In my limited experience TCAS and ADSB would be of little value when often the Oshkosh approaches resemble the inside of that box the guy puts his arm in for a OFF commercial. You certainly need to be looking outside all ...

Might be a case of the rubber isolators snapping in two or just plain sagging ?

Re: Harmonic Balancer Stuck?

Unfortunately the lease on my hangar will not be renewed and I’m losing my hangar of 25 + years so I’ve been moving things and losing place of things but I did measure the crankshaft counterweight bores of an engine I’m presently parting. One set of bushing bores in the crankshaft flange, measured r...

Re: 75th Reunion Celebration group parking at Airventure 202

I’ve camped there before with a small group of 170 ers. We knew a storm was coming (when does that not happen) and I mentioned to my neighbour I’d help him if things got stupid. Well it did but I slept through it, my air mattress kept me above the water level in my tent. In the morning when I emerge...

Re: Harmonic Balancer Stuck?

Thanks Gary for the Continental manual birddog. From the manual The complete crankshaft /counterweight assembly is dynamically balanced and the counterweights are matched in pairs with a maximum weight variation of two grams. If either counterweight is damaged, both counterweights in the matched pai...

Re: Harmonic Balancer Stuck?

IMG_1543.jpeg Well I can’t imagine that scenario “ stuck damper “. Worn pins and bushings certainly and if really worn bushings metal to metal contact in the vertical plane and a vibration but in my experience, its felt in deceleration. Don’t know why that is and whether there’s any trend as in oth...
