Re: Tailspring Bracket Installation Rivet vs Bolt vs Structu

Mike, remember to ask BAS for your 170 association discount. Unfortunately It will only take a minor bite out of the exchange rate, but might make a beverage or two affordable. I recently ordered a set of BAS shoulder harness kit with lap belts. They told me they no longer offer a TIC170A discount....

Re: Tailspring Bracket Installation Rivet vs Bolt vs Structu

On the elongated rivet hole; there are oversize solid rivets (not talking about the next size up). They have the same head size, but larger shank size, as the nominal counterpart. So they look they same size after installation. They are part number NAS1242AD( )-( ) If your holes are really elongated...

Re: Installed 180 Landing Gear

What am I missing. If you put shims (washers) under the gear leg at the top, which is what you would do to raise the wing on that side to level the wings, you are also changing the caster camber of the wheels. The problem here is that most likely the problem is to much positive caster camber. Addin...

Re: Painting

You should rinse the alodine off. You can't rinse too much. You may be confusing the alodine process with etching. There are products that will etch the alclad, then apply primer........and are also "self etching" primers. These processes have evolved since I last slept, so best to talk to...

Re: 2836C's Last Flight

Apologies for my lack of participation. Just been busy. Miles alerted me when this happened, and I did visit this thread. Everyone had already said everything better than I could. I did call Justin this morning and had a great visit given the circumstances. Ive not known Justin's claims adjuster lon...

Re: Forming skins

If you can't find a piece of round steel stock the right diameter, you can use PVC pipe but you need a rigid piece of steel tube (round or square) to route thru the PVC. Schedule 40, even 80, will flex too much without support

Re: Forming skins

T3 has so much spring back, when you begin to wrap it around something, it'll pucker out right about the middle of the radius you are trying to achieve, leaving you a less than symmetrical radius; a bit lumpy. It helps a lot if you can "bed" it down on a table; lay a piece of dense foam on...

Re: Forming skins

Tail cone skins?? If you don't have access to a slip roll, source anything you can that is the right diameter (2024-T3 has a lot of "spring back", so the diameter of whatever you use will be significantly smaller than the radius you need for the skin). Use some practice pieces

Re: Cessna 170B wing replacement.

I don't have the responsibility or authority to approve parts...so I can admit I don't have an answer for that question. But I believe it's correct to say that the IPC is a catalog only.... for the purpose of ordering parts from Cessna or other suppliers. Whether it can be used to identify whether ...

Re: Cessna 170B wing replacement.

Ben, your 172A wings; the basic structural assemblies are identical. The only reason the left wing has a different 'next higher assembly' number is because of the fuel vent system and electrical configurations. When you properly alter these systems to conform to a 170B wing, you have effectively cha...

Yes it fits a 170 stab, It is 68 inches long. Use 1300L adhesive per the instructions, just like installing a deice boot

Re: Horizontal Stabilizer Boots

You can get the generic flat material several places. The only source I'm aware of for the extruded boots is Textron. Of course there may be vendor NOS sources as well. Just bought a pair for a 180K, $171 each.

Re: Hardened Brake Hoses

We just spent several hundred dollars troubleshooting a fuel system issue on a 210. Short version- a JPI EDM-930 was installed by another shop. When they installed the FF x-ducer they shop built 2 fuel hoses. They used new hose material, proper tooling, but the 30+ year mechanic still managed to man...
