Re: Sky-tec starter vs Delco Remy starter adjustment and switch
Well gents its done. After about 10 to 12 hours of work the starter is installed and signed off. The installation is exactly as advertised by skytec. The starter does turn the prop faster than the original but it is barely noticeable but it does sound better. The starter must have been modified with...

Re: Sky-tec starter vs Delco Remy starter adjustment and switch
Well it looks like weve got a lively discussion going. I appreciate all the input so far. One thing that concerns me is most, except one reply, is from the Delco crowd. The non Delco reply is an 0-360 install. I know there must be someone lurking out there with a 145 install that is not talking. My ...

Re: Sky-tec starter
I am a bit of an originality nut and regret having to think of using the Sky tec but I am truely getting tired of maintaining my starter only to have it fail on me when I have landed in a field out in the middle of nowhere. My problems have been mostly with the push button switch not making proper c...

Sky-tec starter vs Delco Remy starter adjustment and switch
Any body got some experience with this starter. Lately I've gotten too much experience hand proping due to my hand pull starter. I've got a C145-2. Steve

Re: diagnostic dillema
The injury occured just as described by gahorn. A complicatiing factor was the cylinders were installed 6-4-2 in order making it difficult to inspect the 2 cylinder afterwards due to the confines of the rear baffle. Installing the intake elbows prior to attaching the cylinders will allow complete in...

Re: diagnostic dillema
Dan, My mechanic must have torn it on install it was a new gasket and he admits it. Didn't charge me to pull everything including the new points and condensers in both mags. I would have had to do the mags next annual. And I got to experience flying the 5 cylinder version of the 170 which few have d...

Re: diagnostic dillema
We suspected an intake leak from the beginning but with cylinders 4 and 6 being colder it did not make sense as they should have been hot due to leaning. Not getting a boost from the ether threw us off as well but it was hard to direct the spray at the leak. This was a large leak as 1/3 of the gaske...

Re: diagnostic dillema
Ok guys the rocket (cessna 170) scientist award goes to DWood. Last night I removed the baffles and lo and behold the number 2 cylinder intake manifold gasket was sticking out the side. So replaced the gasket and its fixed. Intake leak is the cause. Some notes of interest. That number 2 cylinder was...

Re: diagnostic dillema
Thats a great idea as I have suspected a primer leak in the past totally unrelated to this issue. Good now I have something else to do after work. I will let you know if you are a true rocket or should I say 170 scientist

Just had a top end overhaul and now the plane is acting up. On maiden flight noticed sluggish power and popping on take off roll. Sounded fine on runup, mag checks in limits. Later noticed the engine rough at idle and any power setting. Switching to L or R mag made no difference. EGT and CHT shows c...
