Well, the engine is is on a truck and I should have it on Tuesday or so. They ran it on the Dyno yesterday and I am happy with the results. They ran it long enough to break in the cylinders and that gives me a ready to work engine. The final numbers were $14,500 with all of the accessories overhaule...

I am sorry it took me so long. I have been out of the office a few days. When I saw the price of overhauls I looked long and hard at other conversions. I am not really a Franklin fan until we talk about the 220. I believe that to be a great engine. The problem is call your favorite engine shop and a...

Bela, I'm up for a flight of two '54's if you are. We should shoot for next year. I was going to take mine this year until I pulled the engine off. I think it'd be pretty cool to park in a gaggle at OSH! I am pretty mad that you were within 40 miles of my house and didn't let me know you were coming...

When I bought my airplane I truly found a diamond in the rough. It was a NDH airplane and the previous family had it for just over 39 years, wow! When I bought it the paint and interior were rotton and the engine had 520 SMOH since 1971. There is a clue to its fate. The airplane had been sitting for...

George, That is exactly the post I was looking for and I am a long way from being offended. I ordered the IPC for the airplane, and engine. I have the 100 series service manual already and now I am looking for the Overhaul Manual for the O-300. The good news is that my '54 B does not have the plenum...

needing baffle parts
I am working on the firewall forward on my 170. I am painting all the baffling, firewall, and engine mount while the engine is away for O'haul. The 3 pieces of baffling on either side of the engine that sit above the valve covers are servicable but not worthy of paint. I am looking for all 6 of thos...

No they will not. They are too thick first of all and won't fit into the struts of 2000's. Secondly, they terminate at the wrong angle because 2870's and 2960's have a wider stance. You could use them for trading stock with someone like Ed Peck. Typically they will come with the floats you buy. If y...

Bela, I might be turning a strong 2500 RPM, I like to always see it on the plus side so I might be running as much as 2550. I always planned on 118 mph until the paint job and now I see 121, but I plan on 120 and I am pretty close. This also checks out with the GPS averages. I will be going to Oshko...

The only problem is that it is still low on HP! Yesterday was the first time that I had flown in the temps above 85 this season and it was a little puny. The stol kits help us reduce the stall speed but as mentioned it takes a lot of angle of attack to take advantage of them. While trying to take of...

Marr, The 180 horse is a 4 cylinder without any harmonic dampeners and the IO-360 conversion is a fairly modern 6 cylinder continental. It is a smooth engine but expensive to overhaul and install. Lycon just put out an O-300 that dyno'd at 160+ HP! I think I'd explore that. Other than that the engin...

170B doing what it was built for (N2765D)
I saw a 1952ish 170B at the Auburn, WA airport. It was loaded with what looked to be a young man his wife and two kids with a load of gear and they were headed out. Out where, I do not know but the 170 was gettin' them there. It was polished and red trim and going strong. I was on a business trip in...

Eric, My in-laws have a 135 hp cessna 140 with the same flaps as you. They heard what I was going to do about 6 months ago and they went out and put their flaps down and laid a strip of duct tape on the top of the hinge line where it wouldn't be noticable. I had heard of this before. Anyway, they sa...
