Jeff, When I transitioned to my 170 I had the same problem. There were many times the windshield filled with the green parts of the airport and I started to think that landing wasn't going to be the big challenge in taming the 170. A friend/CFI of mine shared the following technique that has always ...

The reason I belong to this organization is to gain first hand information about 170's and how to keep the airplane and me safe. If we didnt have the forum, would we be printing political information in the flypaper or 170 news? I dont think so. Personally, I don't want to sift through the brillance...

Thanks for the posting Bruce. It sure would be nice to be able to archive pics on this site for future reference and not rely on the members internet hosting. I realize it would require additional space on the server (and policeing) but wouldnt it be worth having it on record? Just a thought. JJH55

Yet another laughable diversion by the airline "experts" to lay blame elsewhere on their inability to manage their real problems. NWA has lost an average of $2.2 million PER DAY for the last 3 YEARS so its not surprising that Anderson (a lawyer/beancounter, not a pilot) is throwing this ou...

Thanks N3243A, you peaked my curiosity so I did a quick Google search for Precautionary Landing Accident which yielded tons of similar examples to what you describe. To paraphrase the definition, "A controlled landing/crash executed to avoid an uncontrolled landing/crash". Examples: low fu...

If you read thru the advantages of these batteries; especially the weight savings, their long life (10-12 years) , ability to deep cycle without degradation and ability to hold a charge for long periods of time compared to lead acid, it's really a no brainer decision. Bruce, Boy do I want to beleiv...

TP, Welcome to the Association and hopefully a soon to be 170 owner. You have a great source of information and experienced members in this forum, so use the search engine and read, read, read and ask questions. You should also obtain a copy of “The 170 Book”, there are a lot of great articles a...

I was visualizing that the low point in the system might capture water that might not escape until the aircraft was in level flight or in a nose down attitude. I confess, I dont know how much fuel capacity is in the selector valve assembly but would imagine it's more than merely whats in the fuel li...

Yep, totally agree with you George. Only thing worse wear and tear wise than operating an engine, is not operating it. Your comments are well received. But back to the original point. Is it possible that water could remain at the lowest point in the system with a nose high attitude while fuel is flo...

None, zero, nada. Tanks by the way were also near empty up until time to fly. Probably had 3 gallons each side of 100LL.

This makes me wonder if a drain at the fuel selector would have avoided the 3 second loss of power I had on Saturday. About 1 minute after takeoff, there was a very noticeable vibration and significant loss of power (50%). After that everything operated fine but it took the better part of an hour to...
