Re: Removing Doyn conversion

I would sggest that if you have a Doyn conversion, live with it or trade it, Going back to stock will be prohibitively expensive for the value of the end product.

Re: Prop RPM Avoid Range Operation

What the hell? I thought the pilot lounge is where we go to shoot the you know what!

Does anyone know of any other C-170 prop other than the Hartzel that has na RPM limit range?

Re: O-300B Value Range?

I think the value might be determined by the warranty of the serviceability of certain expensive internal parts like cranks, cams, and gears.
A very attractive price might be negated by a cracked crank found on inspection.

Re: Acid wash, then polish?

I used to have a friend with a polished Bonanza. If you ever wanted to see a guy break out in a sweat. just look like you were going to lean on his airplane with your bare hand on a hot day.

Re: What heater is this?

I cannot but agree with Bruces opinion that the removal is a minor item, but in view of the wide variety of opinions available on many isuch "minor" items,
has anyone ever had an opinion on this "parking brake system" removal from our friendly helpers in the FAA?

Re: What tailwheel is this?

I found slop between the tail spring and spacer in my airplane the first time I worked on the tail wheel. I cut out a piece of a tin food can and fitted it between the two and it was the perfect thickness to provide a tighr fit.

Re: Prop RPM Avoid Range Operation

Not to start an argument with the above report, but I never heard of any RPM restrictions for either the FP or CS McCauley two bladed metal props I had on my '52 C-170B with the TCM IO-360 engine. incidentally, the metal McCauley props also did not reqiire an annual inspection by a licensed pest con...

Re: What heater is this?

In reference to the above mention of parking brake hardware removal: Is it "Legal" to remove the parking brake hardware or is it just sort of a bootleg job? Is there some sort of authorization other than it being a good "safety" idea? Not that bootlegging is against my purity, bu...

falco,
I think it'd be a simple log book entry, but I bet the tail will come up quicker on take off.

Bruce says that helicopters don't have gascolators! I knew there must be something wrong with them.

Re: What heater is this?

If it turns out that your heater distrubition duct is other than as built and there is no log record of it being "legally" changed, perhaps it might be a good idea to not talk about it too much. If some eager beaver starts questioning it, you could wind up having to spend a bonch of money ...

Re: Performance O-360 at altitude

Thanks for the above. I was curious because I used a 76" x 60" FP prop on my TCM IO-360 mod for the first year before I switched to an 82" McCauley CS. I was happy with the simplicity of the FP prop and it worked just fine, especially up in the Idaho back country where the hops were g...

Re: Air bubble of doom in gascolator!

It isn't a C-170 at all ??? This has been one helluva waste of time. Everyone thinking and picturing the fuel system of a C-170 and trying to figure out "why". Are we really sure this problem craft isn't a helicopter? They have a lot of problems on helicopters that never seem to occur on a...
