They make a piece of equipment to check this. It's made by Barfield, and a lot of shops have them. The one I used did pitot/static and airspeed. It's pretty nifty and easy to use, but probably something you are better off borrowing than owning.

Re: ADS B
A local guy tells me that some of the pilots who want to fly without being under such scrutiny are installing two transponders. They use the ADS-B one when needed and the other one where ADS-B is not required. I'm not going to that trouble and expense but it is apparently worth it to some people. I...

Re: B.A.S. Inertia-Reel Shoulder Harness
I have the utility type. Fine for me, but a constant headache with passengers as they are not intuitive. When not attached they always seem to be in the way. That being said I like the flexibility offered. It wasn't available when I got mine (I bought a used set and had them rewebbed), but if there ...

Re: conversion to O360 with Del Air
I own a 0360 powered 170 (mine has the avcon conversion) and it is great plane! But looking at the cost of the conversion today it's a tough sell. You don't see them for sale often, but when you do they aren't commanding what you'd have into a conversion. Most are inching close to Cessna 180 territo...

Instrument Repair Shops
Can anyone recommend an instrument repair shop for me? I have a foggy altimeter and an airspeed indicator I'd like to convert over from MPH to KTS (it's for my Dad's homebuilt). Don't need full overhauls, etc... just competent, reasonable work.
Thanks,

Re: Zeftronics Regulator Approval (sp)
Thanks for explaining the 337 process. I thought the local FSDO used to approve the 337's and now they are all mailed to OK City? I wonder how long that approval process takes? Well....technically the FSDO doesn't approve the 337, they approve the data. As explained above, the FSDO is 1 source (of ...

Re: New interior
Kyle Fosso had his beautiful 170 at EAA this year with a really neat interior in it. He mentioned they were selling them. He said you send your parts into them and they recover them. Price was well south of $10k. You may want to contact him.

Re: Carbon Fiber Cowel for Cessna170
The amount of cooling drag most airplanes generate, including our beloved 170's, is hard to believe. We did a couple cowling conversions, one on a Meyers 200 and then on our RV-8, and the speed increase was substantial. We saw about 10mph on both planes, and in both cases we saw no increase in engin...

Re: LED landing light question??
Well, their installation guide mentions a couple times it's not approved for certified aircraft, and approval on such aircraft is up to the installer. I installed a EZHeat pan heater on my plane a few years back. When I asked them how I should sign it off, they sent me a copy of a letter from the FA...

Re: Carb Hose How LONG?
I'm blanking on the "official" life (you can look it up), but 10 years is a probably a good realistic number for most privately flown, hanger kept birds. Just because it looks good doesn't mean it is good. They get stiff, and if someone has run car gas with ethanol in it you have to worry ...

It also doesn't apply if you use any PMA'd parts.

I wear size 9.5 Sambas (and I'm 6'2"....go figure!), and can confirm they don't catch on anything.

Re: Flying Shoes
Original old school Adidas Samba Classic indoor soccer shoes. Slim, snug fitting shoe doesn't get caught on things, and if it does you feel it instantly. Thin flexible sole with a minimum of cushion allows you to feel the pedals and brakes, and articulate them easily even with your toes, but enough ...

Re: Rapco Belt Driven Pump
Thanks for doing the research on these old vacuum pumps. I wonder, for those of us running under the belt-driven pump STC which also requires the nose bowl from an early 172 to be installed, if at some point in the future we ditch the pump and go the way of either electric or Venturi are we strictl...

Re: Intercom suggestions
I looked at this unit online. It's twice as much new as the Sigtronics, although buying it used takes a chunk out of the cost. Also, the PSEngineering has an isolate feature- as I've twin 5-year olds that like the sound of their voice in the mic, this feature is often a necessity. Think: "wah ...
