If you connect the steering cables up to Tailwheel do you get the same problem?

I recall seeing brass washers, like the one pictured, for the engine sump plugs. Mechanic thought they were original to engine and replaced them with "newer" crush washers.

I have mine inspected every other annual. That's so the spinner bulkhead can be checked for cracks.

Check if part Fig. 25-11 & -12 is installed correctly. This elevator Bellcrank stop can be rotated to change deflection angle.

As a base point, my 1955 170b is serial no. 26958. Pictures, posted by Bruce of the slotted holes, were taken by Del when he started maintenance work.

Thanks for the advice. To be clear, the issue of gas vapor fumes was not overlooked. The area in and around the empty tanks, etc. have adequately ventilated and devaporized for a sufficiently long time. But with the risk scenario you mention being even remote, I'll try another penetrant to be safe....
