Re: Challenger Permanent Oil Filter

I’m interested in their air filters as I understand they allow the engine to breathe a lot easier than the Brackett. I’d like to know what’s required to revert from the Brackett to the Challenger. I wouldn’t be opposed to the filter, and knowing about them, it’s the only one I’d consider, but the ad...

Re: Lightspeed Delta Zulu

Bose maintains they have thicker cords for the audio, but I am consistently impressed with the braided cords Lightspeed has adopted. Several career pilot friends have them and have had zero issues with the new cords. I wish Bose could/would introduce the same. I don’t personally care for Lightspeed ...

Re: Major Airframe Repair Alignment Query?

At the behest of quite a few people, I have begun sourcing new parts for a repair rather than grafting on a new tail.

That being said, I am on the hunt for a NS or NOS rudder hinge 0512109. Anyone know of the existence of one?

Thank you!

Re: What were these holes for?

I have seen ELTs mounted there on some airplanes as well and secured with additional screws through the skin. Would be four holes in a square pattern.

Arm rests are linear and three screws aligned length-wise down the fuse.

Re: Major Airframe Repair Alignment Query?

Ryan, (Firstly, just to remind others, since a “steel” tailwheel bracket was mentioned, it is assumed we are discussing an “A” model)…. … the sta 228.687 bulkhead is the rearmost bulkhead which includes the hoiz stab aft attach, and is a common problem area of ALL Cessnas for cracks as it plays suc...

Major Airframe Repair Alignment Query?

Hi All, My first foray into aircraft ownership isn’t going so well. Not totally unexpected, but I was thinking it was something that could be addressed in a couple of years with an upgrade, not needing to be addressed for airworthiness concerns. My IA found a mess under the stabilizer when they jack...

Re: Solid Axle Questions

Several years ago, we began installing the maximum allowable amount of shims, before installing the P.Ponk block, whether needed or not. We place the shims between top of gear leg and the block. If you need to raise a wing later, just move shims from top to bottom as needed. This is why you get pai...

Re: Solid Axle Questions

Thanks for the replies George and Bruce. My interpretation of the IPC was that if ski axles are fitted, then NAS hardware is spec’d, regardless of if ski fittings and skis are installed. And the axles I’m referring to as ski axles are solid aluminum. 27 years of flying this airplane has led me to be...

Solid Axle Questions

I’ve got a fresh can of juicy worms to open, so I hope all the birdies have an appetite. 56D has stock landing gear for a 1952 model. She also has (for now) original hollow aluminum axles, and an opportunity to buy ski axles came up, so I snagged them. The airplane is in the middle of the first annu...

Re: AOPA Sweepstakes aircraft: Cessna 170B

Could the perceived lack of rudder authority actually be the lack of tailwheel steering? 8) That is the issue, I believe. I wrote to AOPA for contact info to the author/videographer “Cayla” and hope to help her differentiate between tailwheel steering issues and rudder flight-control issues. This i...

Re: Very informal study of 170 sales.

I’ve got a complicated history with my airplane. My grandfather purchased it in October 1986 for $8900. When he passed, he left it to my father who sold it in 2008 for $34,500. In June 2012 it was listed for $42,000 and sold for $35,500. Minimal improvements were made to the airplane since then and ...

Re: Throttle Cable Interference

Sorry for the thread resurrection. I’m finally getting around to installing a glovebox back in 56D and would like some more information on the 0413116-5 bracket that Bruce mentioned above. It seems like an easy enough part to fabricate…just some dimensions and I’ll be good to go. Can anyone help? T...

Re: Left the master on...

I just shelled out $400 for a new battery that I roached by leaving the master switch on twice. The rubber grommet on that switch had dry rotted and fallen out, probably even before my grandfather bought the airplane in 1986, and I finally had enough. It hasn’t happened since I restored the piano ke...
