Re: Horizontal stabilizer
I've flown many hours of balanced and unbalance elevator equipped 170A and B. Never did I wish my A with an unbalanced elevator have a balanced elevator like my first A model. To be totally forthright for those who wouldn't know, my first A model was modified in nearly every way but the data plate t...

Re: 170 in the movies
Link doesn't work because the period at the end for some reason didn't attach to the link. Looks like an aritfact of typing it out on here (automatic periods happen on the ipad and iphone a lot) but it's part of the link. This link is weird. It won't work no matter what if you remove the period. I ...

Re: Main Tailwheel Leaf Spring Comparison
There should only be 1 bushing which goes through all 4 leaf springs in the mount and ties them together. It should not have excessive slop but it doesn't need to be a slop free fit. I would doubt you will find wear to the point your old bushing is not serviceable. Your new spring pack looks like ea...

Re: Main Tailwheel Leaf Spring Comparison
From what I can see the bushing fits fine. It does not need to be a tight fit. Also from what I can see your springs fit as closely as any spring pack I've seen when not under compression and installed. In order to install the pack you pile up the pack and place the bushing in place. The take a larg...

Re: Jet Size increase for ma3 on o300 with High Comp Pistons.
Doug! In this case, I have ported the cylinders, intake tubes and sump as well as pull timing back a bit until I get a better base line. I corrected issues with baffling to help with cooling and will be trying some different spark plugs. I am running strictly 100ll at this point and may experiment ...

Re: Landing Light Surprise
A pic of your lens might be helpful…but no gap should exist. (no gasket either) I ordered a new lens for our 172 from Spruce and it arrived too small. It was returned and a second one fit fine. Webmaster note. The above original post by GAHorn was lost due to admin software failure and is being man...

Re: IFR Capable 170's
Bob, I was going to suggest you do what you did. Block one off and see what happens. It seems by having two guages that someone installed your system as two completely separate systems. But if one being blocked affects the other, this can not be the case. You will have to look under the panel and fo...

Re: Need 0-300D oil pressure orific
Well on closer inspection it looks like the AN816-3 still has a 1/8" straight NPT thread, same as the -2. So it will fit into the engine. So you could by a AN816-3 (Steel, B, or D) and modify it for a #60 hole as I described for a -2 above, then connect your -3 hose directly.

Re: Need 0-300D oil pressure orific
It is a AN816-2B according to the Cessna IPC. B means copper alloy (brass) and in this case soldered closed and a #60 hole drilled in it. You could also buy a steel (no alloy mark) version and solder or braze it closed and drill it. I've also taken an aluminum (D alloy mark) version and tapped it on...

Re: Alternator Upgrade
If your 14-50 is a 50 amp alternator you need a switched 50 amp breaker not a 25 amp, and you also need to make sure the power wire from the alternator to the breaker and from the breaker to the bus bar can handle 50 amps. You also need a switched field circuit which needs protection such as a switc...

My favorite activity, CFI renewal. :( I've used American Flyers as I bought into their FIRC for life deal. I am not looking for a learning experience and surely isn't. But as online computer training/recertification goes I couldn't imagine it could be less painless. Well, except maybe for the dream ...

Re: EP-420W EPIBOND applying airbrush
Yes Dustin I have used the Preval sprayer many times and have a small stock of them. I like them as well but they do have limitations. One, you can't regulate the amount sprayed or the pattern any better than a spray bomb, which it is. Second with the bottle on the bottom, they are quite tall and fo...

EP-420W EPIBOND applying airbrush
Doing some repair work on my Vagabond. Yes I know it's not a 170. I need to repaint the bottom of my landing gear axle tubes in situ. Wondering if anyone has used EP-420W EPIBOND sprayed through an airbrush? I know it can be sprayed through a "touch up" gun but even that is a bit big for t...
