Heater improvements
Ok, winter is upon us and I don't plan on flying with frozen toes. But my heater seems to be less than stellar. What are the recommended heater checks to make sure you're getting all the heat to the cabin as you can. A friend of mine mentioned a double walled scat tubing (sceet???). What size should...

Re: Parking Brake
THE AIRCRAFT NOSED OVER ON LANDING CAUSED BY BOTH BRAKES BEING LOCKED ON TOUCHDOWN. PRIOR TO LANDING (SHORT FINAL) THE PILOT HAD TO USE FULL RUDDER DEFLECTION. WHEN THE AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN THE AIRPLANE NOSED OVER. THE BRAKES WERE FOUND LOCKED, WHEN FULL RUDDER TRAVEL USED, THE LOCKPLATE CONTACTS ...

Re: Owner Advisory & Logbook Entry Questions
I'm a very new 170 owner and haven't seen the owner advisory. Could you post the details of it here?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Should Public Servants be Served?
To add to the festivities, it appears he decided to use a taxiway as a runway when he departed. http://voices.washingtonpost.com/44/2010/10/closed-runways-cant-stop-pilot.html "I really didn't have a choice," he explained, "given the size of the plane. The taxiway is very wide and lon...

Re: Rudder twist
The rudder seems sound. No wrinkles in the skins or rivets that move when prompted. The balance and rudder horn are in good shape as well. No evidence of cracked ribs either. My instructor thinks that it was re-skinned at some point and they didnt use a jig. I'll take a picture and see if I can post...

Rudder twist
Is a 170's rudder supposed to have a slight twist when looking at it from the rear? Mine has a slight twist to the right and I didnt know if it was supposed to be there or if it was re-skinned at some point without the use of a jig. It flies straight so I'm not about to change anything. Just curious...

Re: Parking Brake
OK. I've read all the posts and I fully understand the problem with the parking brake. And it concerns me because 81D only had the cables disconnected. My tailwheel instructor wants to re-connect the parking brake and he's not without a whole lot of experience in 170s. He also brings up a good point...

Re: strut step
Thanks for the heads up.
Please let me know when you have them and how much you want for them.
I'm still thinking three of the steps but it might be more if you have more.
Cheers.

Re: 81D is finally ours!
Freeway is a great little airport. If you can fly there you can fly anywhere, so they tell me. Runway is 18-36 2400x40 and the prevailing wind is out of the West. Every other landing is crosswind practice. That and all the airspace. I had 30 hours of instruction before I ever squawk'd 1200 8O My tai...

81D is finally ours!
Its official! The money is gone and the plane is here!
We just brought her back to W00 today and got her nestled into her new tie down.
I need to get some patio pavers to set under the wheels
I start tailwheel time tomorrow morning!!!

Re: strut step
Any news on making more of these steps?
I'd be interested in buying a few of them for myself and a few guys on the field. Christmas is coming.

Re: Tying the bird outside.
Just got back from the bank! N2481D is officially ours! Now all I need is my tailwheel endorsement :) Some people on the field recommend against airplane covers for extended periods outside as they will chafe the paint and glass. This makes a lot of sense from my boating days. So, I'm going to use i...

Re: Tying the bird outside.
All great advice! I was worried about the external covers as well because of chafe. Making internal panels is actually pretty easy. Should I worry about the windscreen and side glass deteriorating? Regarding the glove box; I don'd have any of the parts for it. Currently, the transponder is over ther...

Tying the bird outside.
I'm about to buy my first plane; a '52 170B and I CAN'T WAIT!! The plane is in beautiful condition with 4 year old paint and no appreciable corrosion anywhere. I'm real excited but there is one issue. There is no way I can afford a hanger in the Washington DC area so, I have to tie her outside. So, ...
