Engine Hesitation
This is one of those problems that is hard to pin down. On final approach sometimes when I add a little throttle my engine hesitates (or even drops a hundred RPM or so) before accelerating. It only happens a very rare occasions. This will be a little long winded but I wanted to detal everything that...

Give these folks a try. They are at Oshkosh every year and pretty nice to deal with.

Fuel selector setting
Just a quick note. Turning the fuel selector to the off positon will NOT prevent fuel from transferring from the high tank to the low tank when parked on a slope. If you look at the construction of the shaft on the fuel selector valve you will see three holes drilled at 90 degree angles, with the fo...

Teflon Bushings
I had the same problem with my bushings several years ago. Wag Aero sells the bushings. If your bushings are white in color then they are the new type. I think the orgional bushings were black or graphite in color. Also make sure that the bushings can float inside the panel. When I installed my new ...

fuel vent problems
Just file this under useful information that you will probably never use. I had a chief flight instructor tell me of a time when his fuel vent iced up on a 182 during a flight. The engine started surging 8O and he finally guessed the reason. His solution; he opened the window grabbed his fuel sample...

Fuel caps
One vented fuel cap is sufficient. Mine is on the right tank and works great. As for new gaskets; I replaced mine a couple of annuals ago. They were not leaking but were starting to crack. When I went to remove the old gaskets they crumbled in my hands. Wag Aero Page 51 of the latest catalog P/N E-4...

Stripper is better
I agree with Bela. If you are interested in polishing the plane don't use anything abrassive. Blasting may be faster but it will be hard if not impossible to get a nice mirror polish. Plus you want to preserve as much of the ALCALD as possible for corrosion control. Zep is a good stripper, but it is...

Tailpipe Binding
I have a 1951 170A with the Hanlon & Wilson Mufflers. My problem is that the left tailpipe is binding on the cowling. This problem has been going on since before I got the airplane. The opening in the cowl has been elongated by the tailpipe. I just put a new exhaust system on that side( new muff...
