According to the 1970-71 Jane's All the World's Aircraft, for the 172, 180 and 182 the wing "twist" is 1.5 degrees. Actually, the preferred term is "washout"; the purpose is to insure the inboard section of the wing stalls first, so you have aileron control during the stall. Were...

Thanks guys, for the responses...I'm leaning toward ECI. Charlie at Zephyr Engines and Seth at Performance Products say Superior makes a good product, but are hard to deal with on any warranty problems, as is Continental. ECI will bend over backwards to make the customer happy, and produces an excel...

New cylinders - Superior or ECI?

I'm getting tired of fighting the old Continental jugs one at a time on my C-145. And stories about rocker arm bosses breaking don't help the confidence factor. So I'm beginning to consider doing a top overhaul, with new cylinders. My engine was last majored in 1974, and has about 700 hours since th...

Hi George...that's not the way the copy I have of the TDCS reads at all. It says, Wing Flaps, immediately below that, UNDERLINED, "all serials S/N 20267 and up eligible". To the right of this statement are the flap settings, listed by degree and notch, 0, 10, 20, 30 and 40. Your copy of th...

Adding the 10 degree flap setting to a 170B

Hi George! I noticed that you have mentioned a few times that adding the 10 degree flap notch to an earlier model 170B was not legal, unless done on a 337. On the type data certificate for the 170, A-799, on page 5 it clearly states that all serial numbers from 20267 and up are eligible for O, 10, 2...

Manifold pressure gauge wanted!

OK, George Horn...I'm convinced I need a MP gauge to fill the last hole in my panel! Does anyone have an original Cessna 2 1/4 manifold pressure gauge they would like to part with??? Russ Farris

IFR in a 170

My 1952 170B is IFR certified. I wouldn't consider it to be overequipped - in fact, my theory is I don't want too much in the way of avionics, because I don't need to be overconfident about what kind of IFR a 170 is safely capable of. Having referenced the prior caveats, my airplane has a KX-155 wit...

Hi Bruno...for all intents and purposes, the C-145 and the O-300 are the same engine. Continental changed the designation in 1955 from a number reflecting horsepower to cubic inches. Oh, early C-145s had non-dampened crankshafts, but I think around 1949 or 50 that was changed. One minor difference i...

Bruno...I just checked: the C-145 is definitely listed for the auto fuel STC on both the Petersen and EAA sites. Russ Farris 8O

Good advice, N4316B! I checked my airplane (52 B model) today...the longeron that the right master cylinder is attached to WAS broken! Probably for decades. It does look like a tough repair; at my IA's rates I hope it doesn't take eight hours! I would suggest everyone check their airplanes. Russ Far...
