Re: Looking for correct drawings for AWB 2500 Skis

I am installing the same AWB2500 skis to my '55 170B. The axles and control arm remains in place with wheels and skis. When we had the floor out, we installed new 1/4" lines, tees and bulkhead fittings. The pump is mounted just between the front seats and touches the front edge of the rear seat...

Re: Fuel level floats sunk 55 C170B

I bought new 'plastic' floats and a replacement gasket from Aircraft Spruce, removed the gauges, found the gears 'sticking' due to 'crud' deposited to them when the tanks sat dry for over 20 years. Cleaned them up, changed floats and reinstalled. Works fine...but I had the scare of my life... Full t...

Re: Control Yokes

DEM,
Sent you a PM. I am looking to replace my original 1955 C170B controls with a ram style due to the location of the throttle during my rebuild. Please contact me...we might be able to swap.
Thanks,
John Nielsen

Re: Door catch/Throttle knob/Oil temperature

Look at the throttle cable pic in my group of parts for sale on this folder. Is this the throttle you wanted? It is 48" off my 55 170B. $40 will make it worth my time to package and ship it to you. JN https://www.dropbox.com/sh/bp827vjlp90o ... lIMfGvHpqa

Re: My '55 170B Project

For the fenders, I got the FAA list of Cessna 188 Agplane registrations and began calling those owned by commercial spray operations. Found a shop who had a set and some spare parts in a box. They require a bit of mod to fit the 170 gear, but quite easy. John

Re: My '55 170B Project

I found the prior latest W&B and compared it to the new EW of this one of 1406 lbs. I only gained 76 pounds. 2200 lbs is the MGTOW of the 170B.

Re: My '55 170B Project

OK, I need to update this post. The plane is flying again!!!! Last time in the air was 1977. Took about 1.5 hrs to get the new engine to seat the rings. I love the quiet smoothness of the MT 3-blade prop....fun to run at 2000 rpm and higher power settings.. Fuel flow at full power gets your attentio...

Re: Fuel Pressure to zero in flight

The fuel pressure tap is the threaded boss just above the fuel inlet at the carb body. Have flown another 2 hrs since cleaning w no issues and samples from tanks and gascolator are now clean. John

Re: Fuel Pressure to zero in flight

After many discussions and experiments, we think the problem was a restricted flow from debris in the gascolator, which caused a low pressure in the line to the input side of the electric pump (which was running when the pressure on the guage began to drop). This 9" -8 Aeroquip line with firesl...

Fuel level floats sunk 55 C170B

It appears the floats no longer float after 25+ years most of them dry. I see that Aircraft Spruce has replacement floats and gasket. It looks like a simple job to drain the tanks, remove the gauge from the tank, replace the float and gasket and reinstall. What other warnings or catches am I likely ...

Re: Fuel Pressure to zero in flight

I am most suspect of vapor lock due to the fact it ran fine following landing shut down and restart after 20 minutes. What can anyone tell me about hose routing that is more prone to it? What exactly is vapor lock and how does it work? The lines are all -8 flex hose with firesleeve except the last s...

Fuel Pressure to zero in flight

On the way back home from OSH, I stopped about 40 minutes out to top off the tanks and take a leak. About 30 minutes into the next leg, my fuel pressure warning began to flash and I saw pressure (as measured at the carb inlet) slowly drop from 6 to 5 to 4 to 3...to 0. Electric fuel pump (between the...

Re: My '55 170B Project

The last few weeks have been consumed with making the fits of trim and wing parts...it takes a lot more time than expected!! So now the control cables for flaps and ailerons is complete. The flaps and ailerons are going to be delivered this week for installation. Got the new window plastic installed...
