Re: Class D / E / G / TSRA
See my thread here on FSS: http://www.cessna170.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=6470 122.0 is Flight Watch, which reading your post again, I think that's probably what you meant. Anyway, Flight Watch (officially, EnRoute Flight Advisory Service-EFAS) is located with an FSS, but not all FSS have a...

FSS Operations
Contacting FSS I thought I'd start a new thread for this since it was brought up in the airspace thread. If you already know all of this, don't be offended, someone else may have forgotten. If you are having trouble contacting FSS, first make sure they're the only ones that you're having trouble tal...

Re: Class D / E / G / TSRA
Miles - you are opening a whole need bag of worms regarding when to cancel IFR. In my opinion, when shooting the approach into an uncontrolled field when below the clouds and landing is assured canceling IFR and allowing the next guy waiting up there to begin the approach is the most correct thing ...

Re: Whelen Rotating Beacon
ROFL! Nothing good can come of this!Surprisingly it still works. I disassembled it to see if there was any preventative maintenance that I could do so that it would keep working.

Re: Class D / E / G / TSRA
As long as we're talking Part 91: Weren't we taught years ago that the Hemispheric Rule for VFR (odd thousands + 500 if you're eastbound, even thousands + 500) gave recommended cruising altitudes? Come to find out, they're mandatory if you're in level cruising flight above 3000' AGL. I'm not positi...

Re: Class E / Class D / TSRA
In fact, those blue shaded areas are almost impossible to find in the lower 48. There are a few in remote mountainous areas out west. When I was instructing and I wanted to show a student an example, I had to get out a Brownsville or El Paso sectional, because it is depicted on the border. The ADIZ...

Re: Hurry and get yours....
The one in suit with the round glasses is hot. Nothing like a bookish, short-haired woman.
Not sure why they have purses. They apparently don't own any makeup or hairbrushes.

Re: Class E / Class D / TSRA
Dave, those aren't really areas of Glass G airspace (to 14,500), but rather they show the borders of the Class E airspace (above 1200AGL). You'll notice that there are airways passing through the areas between those funny blue polygons. Airways are automatically Class E airspace from 1200-18,000 5nm...

Re: Survival hand gun or rifle Question
I think they passed the "Castle Doctrine" law at the same time. I think that got most of the NRA hoopla. Now you don't have to back yourself into a corner before you zip a bad guy. I'm glad they rewrote the vehicle part, though. The law just said "traveling" and did not define wh...

Re: Survival hand gun or rifle Question
George, A lot of what you wrote regarding the Texas laws is wrong or outdated. To wit, it is now legal to carry a weapon in your vehicle at any time as long as it isn't in plain sight or you aren't otherwise prohibited from posessing a weapon. http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/tlodocs/80R/billtext/html...

Re: Survival hand gun or rifle Question
Unless you are flying in AK or know all of the laws for carrying a firearm where you intend to land (not hard to look up by the way), it's best to keep the gun unloaded and secured in the baggage. I would want to have a locking case anyway in case I got stuck somewhere. I wouldn't want to leave a gu...

Re: Class E / Class D / TSRA
Cool. I printed that thing out and made a pterydactyl out of it. :D Airspace is hard to learn. Just about the time I had the ARSA's and TCA's figured out, they changed it on me. Then they did the same thing with the weather reporting. I think it would be easier if everyone got an instrument r...

Re: window seal/gasket
I think the way it is installed, the "U" shape is slipped over the edge of the window opening--it's inside surface is the one with the adhesive--that leaves the "P" hanging out in the breeze. When the window is closed against the "P", it flattens out and seals the windo...
