Dave, I installed Bartone pipes on my plane over a year ago. After much frustation with the local FAA people, I contacted Bob Henderson (IA) in Cypress, TX who obtained approval thru the Houston FAA office. He used paper work from another Cessna 170 he did five years earlier to obtain my approval. I...

Fuel Selector Placards

Need input on where to purchase the Placard for the Fuel Selector? Did the usual search on the forum with little success. One supplier, Wag Aero, has the placard for $9.95 plus shipping and handling. When I asked what the shipping and handling cost was they quoted $8.00. 8O WOW, that's a lot for an ...

Based on your original question, checked my Cleveland Brake conversion today, and Yes calipers are mounted forward of the spring. A stainless flex line, +/- 12 inches long, connects to the solid line on the trailing edge of the main gear spring. The flex line then crosses over the top of the spring ...

GAS TANK FUEL LINE SAFETY CHECK

Good news, both my gas tanks are back from the repair shop. The two small pin hole leaks were T.I.G. weld repaired and both tanks pressure checked for any other leaks. The great news is the local I.A. repair shop only charged me $135 for materials and labor. That included pickup and return of the ta...

Well, removed the left tank in one hour. It sure is easier after learning on the right. The suprise was finding the 3 gaskets around the filler pipe were (1) all present and (2) not leaking. In fact, they looked very good for their age. :( But, UGH, the bad news was the fuel tank has two pin hole le...

 I just finished replacing all three gas tank gaskets in my right wing today. It's a good thing I did. My tank did not have the "third" gasket, that is hidden inside the tank. The famous "small one" not illustrated in the Parts Catalog. Once you have the tank cover off, eve...

Fuel Selector Valve Assembly

 While draing the gas from my fuel tanks, to replace fuel tank hoses and gaskets, I found the fuel selector valve will not shut off in the closed position. My valve is the late model illustrated on pg. 106 Fig. 64 of the 170B Parts Catalog. I have assumed the O-rings are gone. But before pullin...

:D George Horn answered this for me in an email recently. I ordered the gaskets from Hill Aircraft 1-800-998-7832. Part no. 0523532 cost $11.92 and part no. 0523531 cost $22.16. 8O They were illustrated in my 170B parts manual under Figure 2, items 25 & 39 and 170A parts manual under Figure 7, i...

hangar door seals

:D Wilson Doors sells hangar door seals. I have a set on my hangar door. The seal for mine is a 30 ft. long rubber tube held to the bottom door frame with screws. It plugs the 2 inch gap nicely and even keeps out most of the rain. Don't have their address but the are in Trade-A-Plane and you can als...

Correct Fuel Tank Hardware Location

Keith & George, The fuel tank strap harware on my 1956 Cessna is also located in the narrow space between the fuel tank and outboard rib. That's not the way it is shown in the Illustrated Parts Manual, Fig.2-41. As George mentioned, the Parts Manual shows it mounted on top of the gas tank. Howev...
