Re: Oil Change Interval

Do you have a Spin On Oil Filer (F&M etc.) or just a screen?

I have the spin on and change at 40- 50 hrs. If I only had a screen, I’d change at 25.

Re: Plexiglass Panel Overlay - 170A

If/when someone gets set up to create one for a ‘55, I’d be interested.

I don’t want to buy the machine as I’d never use it again. Plus, it’d show me (again) how ignorant I am of CAD/ CAM operations.

Miles you have been a wonderful Caretaker.

To me, that is what we should be for these beautiful, almost living, breathing machines.

I know some see them only as transportation or utilitarian. Not me, and obviously, not you.

John:

Please take lots of pictures and notes so that when your project is complete you can write an article for the 170 News for posterity.

Re: Single Pilot Airbus

I was a new Regional Airline Capt. in 2008, when we were hiring 250 hr. FOs. Some had amazing situational awareness and airmanship for their experience level. Others? I was flying single pilot in a jet out of Chicago O’Hare. When the “1,500 Hr. Rule” came out, many flight schools, low time pilots, a...

Re: Stoopid is as Stoopid does

I'm certainly guilty of having made a few poor choices in life and aviation. I try to minimize them and to resist temptation to "grand stand." When I became an Examiner I was specifically told that I would be held to a high(er) standard and should I "pull a stunt" such as a "...

They put my OAT probe under right wing, about a foot inboard of the lift strut. Said that Garmin says it must be at least 1’ outside of prop wash.

Re: What did you buy for your 170 today?

Installed a GNC-355 and two GI-275s to make it IFR legal. I just didn’t trust the AN Venturi Gyros, or rather my ability to accurately fly them. This probably borders on the insane to put this much money in an old taildragger but I plan to keep it a long time, so...

Re: Headset Reviews

We use Bose A20s in our 170. I'm willing to spend the money to save our hearing. I use DC Pro x2s in my day job and they are great for a loud jet (which is still quieter than a 170). I've used them in GA flying and they're "ok." I used Telex Airman 8 ANRs in a quiet jet and they were great...

Re: Proper Tailwheel Steering Springs?

Don't waste your energy trying to make the steering work. Just put the pieces and parts together as they're supposed to be, and then get good at using the brakes for steering. I’ve seen several people post this, and always wondered. For some reason, my ‘55 steers pretty good. Tight turns or strong ...

Re: BAS seatbelts

Mine has them and I love them. Easy to remove shoulder straps after takeoff on a long flight, and easy to latch them again before landing.
