Bruce, If you are refering to my statement of "screwing in the panel", let me clarify that. What I MEANT, was the use of small screws, washers and nuts to hold the panel. These are allowed by STC. There is no cutting out of the panel, just drilling out rivets and removing the complete pane...

panel

Jim, why don't you contact Harry Delicker, he has a panel STC and can probably give you that info. I got one of his panels and asked that it be blank, then proceeded to make up my own layout. The panel came stamped to shape, and just had the lip to screw or rivet to the top of the boot cowl. Then yo...

aux tanks

Since there seems to be a paranoia about having the Javelin aux tank in the cockpit, behind the back seat, How many accidents or injuries have been specifically attributed to the Javelin tank? I guess if I had heard of specific incidences of failures or injury I might not have put mine in, but being...

tanks

I have a Javelin tank and really like it. as Harold said, it doesn't take up much space and it is great for the CG range inour plane. The only draw back I see is the fuel management issue of having to change tanks to get the fuel from the aux. to the right tank. This entails burning from the right, ...

fly-in

Richard, are you going to the Under The Wire Fly-In, in Louise, Tx., in September? I know you are a round engine pilot, and they have several there. If you go I would like to meet you. Missed you at the Tail-Dragger fly-in earlier this year. Jon

head set holder

Kyle, If I am flying by myself, I just "seat belt" mine to the seat. Hook it up just like you would a passenger. It won't go anywhere and keeps everything out of the way. When I park the plane, I just hang the phones back on the yoke shaft. Jon

model 170

Rick, Are you building a plans built 170, or a kit? I have to assume it has a 6 foot wing span and haven't seen a kit that size in years. (the only one I know of I believe was a Berkley kit). I have a set of plans for that, and would some day like to build it. I built a plans built model of a C180, ...

Mods

KG, Alot of the cost of the changes you have listed are in the installation. A one piece windshield is only about $70 more than the standard two piece, including the STC, but the center strap must be removed and usually a different capture strip, (for a lack of a better description) at the top of th...

Have I missed them, or have there not been any pictures posted from the convention? I hated to have the convention less than an hour away and then be up in Nebraska while it was going on. Sure would like to see what I unfortunately had to miss. From what I have read, George hosted a great convention...

Doyn conversion

I think there is/ was a vibration resonance problem with that engine at the listed red line, but up to 2250. I believe that was the range in which you were not to use that RPM to cruise at. Hartzell did away with that when you use their dampener, (this is used with their 80" prop STC). I don't ...

conversion

N171TD, Why would you spend your money and time to make a tail dragger out of a 172? I for one have converted my 170B with a Lyc 0360 and I am delighted with the results. And unless our economy goes to heck in a handbasket, I will recoup as much if not more than what I put in the conversion. When yo...

Are you asking if both systems can be put in the aircraft at the same time for that much more fuel capacity? Thats alot of air time! I don't know about the Flint tanks and how they are plumbed. The Javelin tank is pumped into the right tank while flying off the left tank. (this is accomodated by fly...

Short take off and landing

Congrats! Quite an accomplishment ! How much does your plane weigh? What method did you use for the take off? I understand the wind was 10 to 15 Kts. Not much considering the distance. Shows what a GOOD pilot can do in the real world , if one is willing to practice. Was that the competition the Carb...
