tailwheel spring loose fitting with Scott 3200 assembly

In my continuing saga in rbuilding my 52' 170b, my mechanic recently fitted the new tailwheel spring from aircraft spruce and the scot 3200 assembly together. It is showing that the tailwheel assembly is about 1/4" too wide for the spring and will need a spacer to connect properly. What is wron...

Redoing all electricals

I am now going through the electrical system in the major restoration project I am currently undertaking. The plane is a 52 model ser. # 25287. It has the original electrical system. What upgrades will be the most important for safety? Do I have to change to circuit breakers? Master avionics switch?...

Major time, cylinder questions

My engine O-300a is now at western skyways, colorado for a major overhaul. Their standard quote included the repair of the old cylinders but have given me the option to install new eci's for $100 each or 600 total for exchange. My cylinders are repairable but first run from original. It only has 120...

Minimum equipment list for 1952 170b.

In rebuilding my aircraft, I would like to know what minimum equipment should be in the aircraft for the authorities before I start investing in other instruments and audio/communication gear. I have the parts catalogue but am having a hard time establishing the equipment needed.

Thanks!

Rebuilding airframe, what to do with corrosion.

Have started a total rebuild of the my aircraft. After 51 years, and mainly farm use, it is having it's first restoration. After paint removal, corrosion was found in fuselage, mainly in the joints of the outer skins. This prompted the total removal of all skins for corrosion proofing and repair. In...

George, I have already contacted the major shops you have suggested and am awaiting all the quotes before I decide. The range of prices is quite a spread from 15k to 23k. I've read all I can at Aviation consumer and the other posts in this forum and others in CPA and AOPA. But since you have direct ...

George, how much should I budget for a typical overhaul? Should I go for ECI or Superior cylinders? Have read the other posts and articles in aviation consumer but would like to hear your opinion.
Thanks!
