Re: New cylinders or overhaul - all six
Your right the O300 is a tuff engine to beat, the GO300 fail because people lugged them back and wouldn't run them where they were designed to fly, my gearbox held up but I broke a piston contaminated the oil with pieces of rings & piston . In 1990 it cost $32000.00 to overhaul the GO300, which ...

Re: New cylinders or overhaul - all six
10/4 I have mineral oil in it now, I'll change oil and clean screens at 5 hrs or Saturday which ever comes first. I forgot to mention in the first two hours of flight, I only lost half a quart. OOW

Re: New cylinders or overhaul - all six
Three months later and its done, but with Christmas, New Years & a few health issues that's not to long. Replaced all six cylinders with Superior Mellinnium total package. My A&P, AI, test pilot best friend flew it yesterday for 2 full hours according to break in recommendations , with no pr...

Re: New cylinders or overhaul - all six
Hot, cold, leaned out at wide open could not make but 2300 Static. Two worst were 30, 40, two at 55, two "good" ones were 65. I think new is the answer. That way I'll know what I have , a base line so to speak.

Re: New cylinders or overhaul - all six
Thanks for all the advise, I had given thought to resale value, heating and cooling cycles, down time waiting for the work to be done then be shipped back to me, plus my anal repentive ideals about having six new matching cylinders instead of six mixed matched cylinders. My O300 has less than 800 hr...

Re: 170's @ REKLAW flyin
I landed 3 behind the Seneca, we noticed he was hot most of the way down the runway. Bad for him and was almost bad for the next couple of planes on final everyone started to run towards him not checking traffic about to land. but no one was hurt. and there were a lot of C170's. OOW

Re: 170's @ REKLAW flyin
I was there Saturday, it was great, I met a lot of our members and we took a couple of group pictures. 525 sounds about right both sides of the runway was full of planes plus the parking area. Plenty of action all day and plenty to eat.

8040, 42 or 43 ???
Just sold a scooter and want to buy a climb prop, I've read the pros vs cons. I have a 1400 ft strip with 30 ft obstacles on each end so I want every advantage I can muster. I'm running an O-300 with a 7652 prop now. I have a 170 B with a Sportsman STOL kit and VG's . Which one is best in the 80&quo...

looking down on the tubes, you can see the old wiring connection. I had to hold my phone up inside to get this one but it came out ok.

Re: Micro VGs
Several reasons as to why I did both mods at one time. 1. I did a lot of Q & A , not of people that sold them but of pilots that flew planes that had one mod or the other or both, I tried to find pilots that did not own the plane or had not paid for the mods. (I'm like you if I spend a lot of ca...

Re: Parachute Flares
I have them on my C170B , the 3 launch tubes and rack is still mounted (empty, I checked). They looked to be electronically fired, there's a screw cap with place to slip a wire or something into each tube, when I replaced the headliner I found a place where a fuse box or solenoid had been mounted . ...
