I read the report and wondered if the pilot might have been using full flaps and slipped. The accident seems to follow the trajectory I have heard that can happen if a slip is attempted with full flaps in the B model. Bill K

interesting. I have given up trying to make sense of government regulations. So far I am surprised at how small the restrictions are around his house 1sm and 1000agl. Hope it stays that way. Bill K

Wondering what to expect
I know I need to be careful here not to start a political discussion. It appears as though our potential next president has his primary residence about 8 nm from the airport I am based at. just wondering what we can expect as far as airport closures. New garden is a vibrant GA airport just across th...

Re: Is There A CESSNA 170 in a muesum?
I tend to agree with you. The ragwing 170 is the root airplane for the flat engine four place series of airplanes that are still produced today.
Seems like that should make it a historically significant aircraft. Bill K

Re: Financing vintage
Not surprise. I am in the excavation contracting business and financing used equipment at reasonable rates takes a lot more paper work than in the past. In fact I am amazed that anyone would finance a classic plane on a long term like 20 years. Bill K

Re: Project help
If you are going to take the wings off you will want at least 4 people available one on the strut and one on each end of the wing plus the guy removing hardware. I don't remember the tail being that hard but some really long 1/4"tensions so you don't have to go so far down the fuselage. Also ke...

Re: My first P-51 lesson (DCS)
A few years ago I actually got a chance to fly the real thing. One day an older gentleman in our EAA chapter came to me and said when he first came to the chapter I had given him a ride in my 170 and he wanted to repay the favor. He had hired a dual P51 for the day and gave some of the of us who con...

Re: Pros and Cons of Polished Aluminum
Things to consider about polishing. 1 it takes quite a bit of time. 2 You will always feel you could have done a better job. 3 if you have metal wings its probably a good idea to just paint the underside as polishing them would be brutal. 4 It lasts longer and gets a little easier each time you do i...

Re: The age of aircraft
Sometimes I think about the age of our planes. I remembers as a kid back in 1968 sitting in Dads 46 Cessna140 thinking a 22 year old plane was really old!! Little did I know that 50 years later I would be flying in its 70 year old big brother. Mine flies as good as a new one. In fact we had a Chapte...

Re: '48 Fuel pump one way valve
Georges recommendation to gently blow thru the valve is an important step. The pressure of the gravity of the fuel in the line needs to open the check valve or a fuel pump failure will soon result in an engine failure. Bill K

Re: '48 Fuel pump one way valve
The valve allows fuel to bypass the fuel pump and flow to the carb in the event of a fuel pump failure. It stops fuel from returning from the pressure side of the pump back to the suction side of the pump. In all but the most unusual situations the 48 will run without the pump but it is required equ...
