To bend any tubing the best way is to fill with sand and bend then just dump out the sand and viola, a proper bent tube.

On the 48 fuel cap, they have an oring/ dynaseal under the top washer at the handle. If installed under cap when tightened it will separate the seal and allow air to migrate.

When I did my wings I also considered this option but decided for my flying I didn't need to carry the extra weight and needed to get out of the plane after 4 hrs.
If you plan to fly back country where there is no fuel it is a safety item.

Old flex lines can collapse inside and hold fluid pressurizing the cylinder. Don't ask how I know.

How tight is the clamp? Fasten a wire at the end with solder an maybe shrink tube and pull through.
