Missed seeing and being in Ron and Connie’s company over the last few conventions. Hope their plane finds a good home.

Re: New Flap Tracks
Just guessing that quaffing is an integral part of the flap track replacement process. 8O I’ve never had to replace one, couldn’t get the gauge to fit anywhere and I actually had a substantial amount of overspray to remove . Plane just crossed 4000 TT and I’m thankful. Looking at the job Im guessin...

Ah…you got me Bruce, yes the measure is a variable measure dependant on the amount of quaffing going on

Re: New Flap Tracks
Its hard to imagine how the tracks can become worn unless the rollers have been neglected and have frozen along with not lubricating the tracks. If there’s something thats easy to do on a 170, it would be that lubrication hence Reese you might be in for a world of hurt the deeper your task takes you...

Re: New Flap Tracks
I wouldn’t be too worried if the tracks were “worn”. but that’s just me unless of course the wear is silly. More problematic is the lateral wear of the rollers through the flap side arms which will lead to a possible failure flap jam and asymmetry.

Re: brake hoses
I thought that those items (lines) were made from aluminium tubing, maybe you mean item #4 (flex lines). If original they will be as hard as rock with zero flexibility. There’s not alot of room there so the lines must fit precisely otherwise they will foul on structure. I’d wait till you can get in ...

Re: C170 Serial Numbers
Looking up the Canadian records, who knew, I know this airplane (not well just walked around it a few times) as it was based on the west coast ( Sechelt). Canadian records for this serial number begin in December 1996. In 2017 I think it started its journey East, first Alberta then into Mikes hands ...

Re: C170 Serial Numbers
Dan, thanks again for all you do at the EAA. and thanks for your contributions here especially with your knowledge of the early versions of the 170. I believe this gentleman / plane lives in Nova Scotia. I’ve chatted with him, have been invited to his strip but have not had the chance to meet him in...

Re: Stall warning switch vane
Good advice, I’d just add be liberal with the cleaner, maybe use a multimeter to measure the resistance and see if you’re making headway.

Re: Motor mount removal
Lots of info. on this subject buried in the vault, the search engine is your friend. Cracks in the rubber are not a problem as they are likely just surface cracks. Replacing them when the engine is overhauled makes the most sense. Lifting the engine out of the mount is the way to replace them if ind...

Re: LH Cowling Door (1955-)
I’d agree with George, it would be hard to find one that would fit. You might make it yourself or get a tin man to make it. If you look at the door its actually two pieces of metal easily fabricated but it takes a good hand to bond them together so it looks good and the final fit just takes patience...

Re: Scott 3200 attachnment bolt
Just flogging a dead horse, I guess but in this pic you can see the spring adapter.
Its two edges can be seen to centre the spring in the tailwheel housing preventing rotation about the bolt.
