George, thanks for the advice on the sealing material. My AI told me he uses aluminum hi speed tape inside the clamps on his 210. (Why didn't he seal mine when he installed the mufflers?) That's what we'll try tomorrow- I'll keep everyone posted on the results.

I did extend the tailpipes and it did no good. I also sealed the left gear leg opening- the right one has no exhaust stains. Cabin heat makes no difference- on or off it's the same reading. So maybe that is the problem. The right exhaust muff is new- a year old- and I pressure tested the left one- f...

They sure do, Eric. Last weekend a friend who flies an ultra light took some air to air photos of my plane. One came out real nice- I had two notches of flaps and was almost falling out of the sky !
I'll post the pic on this site as soon as I figure out how.

Bob, thanks- I replaced the clamps but it made no difference. My tailpipes only protrude about 1" out of the cowl which seems shorter than other 170's. (OK no wise remarks, George) -I'm having them modified to be 2" longer. I hope that's enough and that it reduces the CO level. I'll also c...

After reading this thread I bought a CO detector- a Senco Model One for $75 from AeroMedix. There is a slight exhaust odor in my airplane. The CO readings on the ground are zero but in flight its 28 ppm with the vents open and up to 57 with the vents closed. The heater does not seem to make much dif...

George, you're right- the drawing shows the pitot tube sticking out of the wing leading edge. But might it still be approved for the A / B models- ?
You'd just have to drill a hole in the wing...

A friend of mine knew Russ Filler, the man who jumped from the 150- he worked with him at NASA. He said Filler was about 5'-10" and of slight build. He heard that Filler asked the instructor to bank sharply right for future aerial photo information. The instructor complied and saw his passenger...

Harold, I had the same problem- I couldn't log on from my usual computer but could from another. I dumped all my Temporary Internet files (Windows/Temporary Internet) - there were thousands- and can now again log on from this computer.

Joe, good luck on the repairs- a bummer ! I had a spring break after stupidly letting a mechanic bend it after heating it. The heat destroyed the spring's temper and the spring broke, very luckily just after I pulled up in front of my hangar after refueling. Amazingly, the only damage was to the spr...

I'm glad to say that AVEMCO renewed my insurance for '03 at the same premium as last year- $1233 with 50K on the hull.

Just as a point of interest, I knew a pilot who raced a P-63 in the Thompson Trophy race. His engine blew at low altitude but he was hauling. So he pulled up to a few hundred feet and bailed out successfully. The P-63 did have small side doors on both sides of the cockpit, probably no bigger than a ...
