I just checked out the D and T link-- I'm writing them a check as we speak! Man, that cuff does everything but make your coat shinier! Seriously, they sure talk a good show. Seemed like the improvements they claim for the 170B are even greater than those claimed for the 180 & 182. Miles, D&T...

Check the Micro VG website, I believe that they cost about $700 for something like a Pacer. But for a 170A/B they're like $1400? Trouble with the non-STC'd variety (I assume you're talking about the Landshorter VG's) is that you're kinda on your own as far as placement goes, as I understand it. the ...

Bruce, I was wondering if you can give us a quick and dirty version of your before-and-after impressions of the Micro VG's? In spite of having never flown anything with either mod, I am of the opinion that some wing designs are more responsive to the addition of VG's, and some more responsive to the...

Bruce, is it cheaper to go with the Gar 850X10's than with 26" Goodyears or Bushwheels? What kind of dollars are involved with each, and what do you see as the pro's and con's of each? Are these Gar's the ones that use a (plastic) wheel adapter?

Jim, I'm wondering if the reason your airplane gets off better, etc than your dad's might be just because it's lighter. You say the prop is the same, but I was gonna guess that maybe the prop pitch was different between them also. I do think that airplanes are individuals, your ragwing may outdo you...

I insure with AUA, thru their EAA Vintage program. They advertise in Vintage magazine. Same coverage as a couple others above: $35K hull, full coverage (thru inflight),$1M/100K/3K: $944 a year. Plus it costs me about $40 for the required EAA/Vintage membership. AUA is a broker, the insurance folder se...

I wouldn't think that metalizing a ragwing would do anything plus or minus as far as lift is concerned. I do think it would add some weight. The ragwing and the A/B wings are obviously different, the earlier wing is constant-chord ("hershey bar") and the later wings are tapered chord. I do...

............................. ...I don't thnk that's the reason some airplanes don't have a CHT. The reasons most airplanes don't have a CHT is because they don't have cowl flaps. There's no method available for the pilot to regulate the airflow. ......................................... I think th...

I guess the link leads to a Xmas gag? I don't usually click links, I have really slow dial-up internet service and it takes too long to download video's, even to download pics/graphics, so unless it's something I'm really eager to see I just pass. They don't have DSL available where I live, the best...

When they have to call off the search op's because of rain and gale-force winds, it makes you wonder what the wx was like at the time of the crash. And if it was really bad, why someone was out flying in it. Saw a bit of the video of the Mallard crash, the airplane heading down & augering in at ...

plane down

Saw on the news that a Cessna 195 based at Rome GA went down in the saltwater near St Augustine FL. Two missing, one dead, one OK.
Bummer, hope nobody here knew the people involved.

Needs engine overhaul versus needs paint-- hmmmmm........ One way to look at it is that the re-paint is less money ($7-9K) but more hassle, whereas an engine is more money ($12-15K) but simpler-- just unbolt the old engine and (later) re-hang the new one. That said, I'd opt for a fresh engine over a...

I agree with George again (amazing!), it's all academic. Bruce cites empiratical data from his test flight. Different oil temps in same climatic and flying conditions, due to different aircraft cooling configurations. Bruce, are you postulating (been waiting for years to use that word!) that the low...
