Color me flippant, but if my floor is on fire, it's a pretty bad day already
I've had inflight fires on multiple occasions in larger aircraft...never fun.

Re: Fire Extinguisher Mounting (split from flaphorn)
What does that mean? Here’s an easy way to remember: Type A.... is for fires that leave an Ash... like wood, paper, cloth. Type B... is for fires that involve fluids, things that can Boil... like gasoline, oil, etc. Type C... is for fires that can carry electrical Current.... wiring harness, batter...

I've got some - mostly grass landings and I run about 15psi usually - I like them so far - only had them on since about August, but not a lot of landings between then and now.

Re: IPad Mount
I have a pivot case - it uses a little square thing that snaps into the back of the hard case and can accept RAM ball mount accessories. When not in use, the cover snaps into the square back and magnetically closes and turns off the iPad. I have mounted a standard diamond-ball RAM mount to a blankin...

Re: Percent Horsepower Calculation
A little off topic, but I recommend installation of a manifold pressure gauge, even with a fixed pitch prop. I put one in when I installed a standby vacuum system, but have found it to quite useful as a carburetor ice detector. As long as you’re at a constant altitude, you’ll see a drop in MP with ...

Re: How to install seat belts
In the military (not that we're in the military), there is a general rule that all buckles should be right hand release...sweep your right hand from your left hip across your waist and you should find the buckle and be able to release it in one movement... That said, I've seen buckles in GA aircraft...

What's the best source? Is it any old K-type ring thermocouple?edbooth wrote:Frank, the wires are iron/constantan and its kinda hard to get a good connection between these two wires and then get them soldered to the edge of that ring......they really don't cost that much.

CHT gauge died... :(
First flight after my annual, about 20 minutes into the flight, I noticed my CHT bouncing around at 100* or so. I paid closer attention to my oil temperature for the remainder of the flight and when I landed, I opened the cowl access doors and couldn't see anything amiss. The CHT lead appeared intac...

Re: 850-6 4 PLY AERO CLASSIC SMOOTH TUNDRA TUBE TYPE (AA4K5)
Is there a STC for these on a 170? Field approval? I’d like to try them on for size my self. I need to buy some tire so I’m thinking the 8.5-6.00 tundras or the legal 8.00-6.00 4 plys. Just shedded my wheel pants for summer. And she looks like a ape on a basketball. F. Atlee Dodge has an FAA approv...

Type-A ATF is now Dexron, and as the additive packages have changed, so have the numbers following - pretty much the only type you can find anymore is Dexron III (mostly due to GM licensing/certification), but it works backwards to the old Type-A. Type-F ATF was used by Ford for use with bronze impr...

Re: Power Port Chargers
I still don't understand why it bothers the 210 and not the 200 radios or why the problem goes away after a short time period :? . It may be a difference in adjustment to your squelch circuit in the radios themselves and/or some component that warms up and works better/differently in the squelch ci...

Re: Angle of Attack Instrumentation
... and you want to REALLY KNOW when your wing is about to "let go" of it's lift-capability in all situations of bank, flap/aileron configurations.... then ANGLE of ATTACK will more reliably provide that information than an airspeed indicator will. A true AOA system will do all of that. U...
