Re: Starter Intermittent Engagement

Cables can be corroded inside the insulation and at the crimped terminal ends. Check for voltage drop at terminal closest to starter. Contacts in starter can be burnt and not always making good contact when you pull the starter cable.

Re: Flush riveted 170 Wings

I believe I would prefer flush riveted vortex generators over glued, some people prefer flush riveted sheet metal repairs as well. Who wants to see a large cluster of round head rivets on the side of their plane like a big scab.

Re: Flush riveted 170 Wings

I believe the ribs and skins would be too thin to countersink. The method to use flush rivets on thin aluminum sheet is to use dimple dies. I don't see why you would want too though. The result would be alot of wasted time and money.

Re: New 170B owner

Sorry Bruce, I was referring to the heavy duty springs that George was recommending at the beginning of this thread. I do not use them but I do use the heavy duty chains

Re: New 170B owner

I have never trusted those flimsy little "sash" chains, I used to install double chains on each side of the tailwheel. Anyone had problems with them breaking? I would think the heavy duty chain would work better especially if you are using a heavy duty spring
