Re: Fuel tank removal on the “B” model

Your fuel tanks rubbing on the spar is scary. Where the tank straps loose when you removed the fuel tank cover from wing? Did the wooden blocks have the rubber pads on them when removed from the spars? Snug tank straps and rubber pads on wooden spar block should keep fuel tank from shifting. I would...

Crankshaft, bushing, propeller nut

On my O-300 eight bolt crankshaft, one of the propeller nut bushings (Fig. 4-4 -PN 24769 Engine Service Parts Catalog) is cross threaded. I have a replacement part, but the issue is how to remove the damaged nut bushing part with the engine mounted on the plane. Looking for sage advice, from those w...

Re: New Owner with a Cowling Question

I am a little overwhelmed by the response!!! I will not be able to take pictures and post them until this weekend. I am happy to hear this is somewhat normal. It appears to the mechanic and me it just needs some silicone and erosion tape as you all have suggested. There isn't any major damage to sp...

Re: Earliest knock-kneed gear legs question

Del, my 1955 170B uses the dimpled straps. If I remember correctly I purchased NOS replacements from Air Repair. Might be worth checking them out.

Re: Where can I find this tailwheel part?

Hey, 170 Association. Does anyone know where I can purchase the pads shown in the image of the original tailwheel that are labeled #11, part number 0442119-1? Thanks, Doug 4FF14590-474F-4DD8-A159-5BC2C94F8639.jpeg Just curious, my Cessna 170 B parts manual has a different illustration then shown in...

Re: Fuel Tank Filler

One of our 170 members who doesn't normally do posts on our forum asked me to make an inquiry for him. He is having to replace his right hand fuel tank (I earlier posted to see if anyone had one for sale) and he has purchased a C-140A Patroller fuel tank. That tank is the same 21 gallon one as we h...

Re: Piano or safety wire

Thanks guys for the fast input. Piano wire was not available locally, but had stock of .041 SS safety wire that is now wrapped around the back two cylinders and out through the rear baffle. That took a bit of time threading the wire with all the baffles in place. As for springs, like Bruce's friend ...

Piano or safety wire

A wire part broke today. It is called "Fastener - Baffle" and is PN 0450277-2 (Fig.53-43). It holds rear baffle assembly, with springs, to the rear cylinders. Have not found source for new part yet and now thinking of making it out of wire. But which type of wire? Piano wire or .041 SS saf...

Re: Jasco 6560T Alternator Drive Coupling Components

I just replaced part 08-13958 (pair of rubber bushings) at 650 hours on my Skytronics alternator. Paper work with plane says to inspect every 500 hours. Per my AI, the part is common to most continental generators and alternators. Also, part is available from many sources and easy to replace.
