Re: Replacing the landing gear legs
Ryan, Voorheesh has it right on the Cessna Single Engine service Manual. And, I used Southland Aviation, a certified repair station, to do the heavy lifting and paperwork. My job was helper to the young mechanic shown in the picture and prep the plane, ie, drain the fuel tanks, remove seats and carp...

Re: Replacing the landing gear legs
Paul, you are welcome. In the three pictures Bruce posted above for me, the stand shown was only used for holding (suspend) the plane once the landing gear was removed. 8O To lift the plane, I used a jack and spring jack pad normally used for removing the wheels. So, I jacked one wheel up until off ...

Re: Gearbox repair
Others may suggest shops closer to you but check out http://www.barnstormersworkshop.com. They are located in Williamson, GA at Peach State Airdrome (GA2). I have not used them for any repair work but saw some excellent Cessna 195 gear box repairs they were doing several years ago. More recently the...

Re: AD 83-22-06 (NOT 170, but related?)
I bought N3415D in July 1983. Aileron hinges were, and still are, staked. When controls were removed for painting in Mena, AR, followed by balance check, in 2006 they were reinstalled using the staking procedure. So, does the AD apply and everyone has missed it? What say you Wingnut?

Re: Fuel Pressure to zero in flight
Since you found debris in gas collator, check your parts manual to see if your plane also has screens in fuel tank outlet. My 170 B tanks does. When I R & R both tanks many years ago, partial plugging was found.

Re: fuel tank sag
For wing figure, see page 17, Fig. 8, items 8, 9, 13, 14, 15, 16 etc. If your fuel drain is correct part number, than another area to check is the neoprene pad, Fig. 8-15 & 16 that is located under tank. If it is missing or worn out, the tank will sit lower. Send me a PM with your email address ...

Re: fuel tank sag
All the items are in parts catalogue. Just keep looking mine is at hangar or I Would give you Figure number. For example, blocks of wood are to keep tank from moving fore and aft. But your tank hold down straps are very loose; plus there should be rubber strap under steel band to keep from chafing t...

Re: C170 Cowl Door Pop open in Flight?
Cowls coming open in flight has occured on all the 170 models. It is not uncommon due to forgetfullnes or worn parts. 8O In the 170 Association publication "Service Related Articles Manual - Cessna 170 Series", member Tom Schulke talks about when his 170A cowl came open and how he fixed th...

Re: Rosen Sun Visors
David,
The single nut plate you mentioned is for mounting the original Cessna (optional) sun visor kit. It is illustrated in the Parts Catolog Fig. 101 and takes an AN3-5A bolt. Also, see Fig. 21-8 (Attach sunvisor). As George says, follow the Rosen STC instructions.

Re: Internal tailwheel steering cable pulleys access
As an older 170 member I remember Earl Eastabrooks telling me at the Galveston Convention the tail section was not the original to his airplane. Something about a prior owner replaced the tail section from a donor aircraft when it was damaged. You might want to check the early log books carefully to...

Dave, if you pick the date that fits in best between your family activities, I am sure you will have lots of 170 folks making it fit into their schedule I know my wife and I will try our best to be there.

Re: Blister on 53'
From the above comments about 170 Conventions, it sounds like there are enough Canadians interested to hold one in BC again. The 2006 convention in Kelowna, BC was awesome.
