Spacer-Scott tailwheel

Shortly after I bought my airplane in Jan '01 my talwheel leaf spring broke. Fortunately, no other damage- the airplane was parked, unattended, when I heard a loud BANG ! - the tail dropped and sat on the remaining springs. The spring broke just forward of the bracket casting, where it was in contac...

Greetings guys and thanks for all your very helpful information. I believe I've solved the mystery of the loosening TW attachment bolt. It was caused by wear on the aluminum spacer which I now replaced with a steel one. Yes, the spacer comes in two flavors- aluminum and steel and the aluminum one is...

I must already have the bushing- the bolt fits perfectly, but I'll check. However I don't have the correct spacer- could that be the problem ? My "spacer" is that channel that fits over the spring. George, does your spacer have a very shallow flat strip machined across its top ? Is it made...

Jody, that's very helpful- many thanks. The "Lug" on p. 154 is the same part number as the "Tab" on p. 28 !

This is getting curiouser and curiouser- My leaf springs are 1.5 inches wide and the inside channel of my Scott bracket casting is 1.75 inches wide. There is a wide, shallow, u-channel spacer that fits in the bracket and over the spring to adapt the wide bracket to the narrower leaf spirng. There is...

Chuck, I don't think my problem is main-gear related. I'm sure it's a tailwheel issue-

Yes, this was a similar problem to the one in Wilmington which George and Gary (Ol'Gar) diagnosed. I don't recall the springs being loose but the tailwheel casting was loose where it bolted to the main spring, same as this time. Gary tightened it and it made a huge improvement. A few weeks later it ...

Tail wheel bolt- Scott

Last week I was enjoyng my favorite recreation, doing touch & goes. All went swimmingly well until the last landing, a full stop. When the tail wheel came down, the airplane swerved to the left. I straightened it, but thought- how clumsy of me. (there was a 10 knot 45 degree crosswind from the r...

Having spent most of my life flying in warm climes, please PMI, but does a ski plane have a tailwheel, or a skid in the back, or a tiny ski or what?

Blueldr, I was told by VAL technician that setting up the 760 to retain the last frequency would drain the battery unless the airplane was flown at least weekly. He didn't recommend it. Have you found this to be true ? I recently had to send my 760 to the factory as the display got very dim- a burne...

Yes, in these days of FedEx, UPS and DHL etc. shipping things around the world s much easier than previously. (Dare I say "in my day"?) I recently had to send my VAL 760 to the factory in Oregon. The display was getting very dim- a burned out photoelectric cell. The factory repaired it com...
