Re: ADS-B Rebate re-introduced and tailBeacon info
Am I the only one who feels robbed by our government after buying a new ADSB unit between the $500 rebates. Seems like they ought to tax the biz jets and airlines to pay for these units as most of us little guys really didn't want this technology. Bill K

Re: New 170B owner and Pilot - Avionics questions..
Adding on to my previous post. You will need them to operate properly to take a complete private pilot check ride in that airplane. You should have them working because similar to a gun or a parachute the day you realize you need one its going to be too late to buy one. Bill K

Re: New 170B owner and Pilot - Avionics questions..
You might check a few other things. First is there a filter on the gyros. If so replacing them might help. If your instruments have no filters you might check to see if the inlet screens are plugged with lint. Another possibility would be old vacuum hoses that are cracked. Bill K

Re: Damaged valve guides?
I had a valve stick open a few years ago on my way to Blakesburg. A mechanic had the proper size reamer which we used on the guide. That cylinder has been fine ever since. Bill K

ADSB Weather vs XM weather
I am curious to hear from people who have flown with both ADSB weather and XM weather and hear how they compare. I am going to need to upgrade to ADSB or quit flying and was curious as to wether the ADSB in will give me the same things I had with XM weather. I guess I don't feel a compelling need to...

Re: Beware of the internet, it’s there for eternity
Back in 1967 my dad had a relatively minor accident in a Cessna 140. Four years to the day latter he was killed in a car accident. Then forty years latter I found the aircraft accident report on the NTSB site. Poor old Dad never dreamed that his mistake "Pilot Error" would be posted foreve...

Re: It begins.....wings off
I am not sure if painting the original coating is a good idea or not. I powder coated mine and was very happy with the results. If you go that route you will need to get the original covering off. That was not overly dificult on mine. If you do powder coat them it is apparently a good idea to put th...

Re: It begins.....wings off
Your pictures are interesting but it appears you are not down to bare aluminum like mine were when I stripped them. It appears the original covering is still on there. Not saying you can't paint them as they are though. Bill K

Re: Fixing an unusual cabin heat mod
I had that mod on my plane. I removed it and replaced it with the original set up. and found no change in cabin heat. Its my experience that older 170s have very poor cabin heating. The only thing that seemed to help a LITTLE was replacing my mufflers with the Hanlon Wilson style exhaust. Bill K

Aero engines repaired a bad cam for me a few years ago and I was very satisfied with their work and price as well. The engine has never leaked less oil in the last 23 years. Bill K

Re: Original Strut color 1948
I am sure the original color on raging struts would be the same as the landing gear as they were both steel. There is a good chance that you might find traces of the original color if you were to remove the gear legs from the fuselage. I found the original color in the inside. Bill K

Re: ADS B
ADSB is just a way to protect the top one percent in their biz jets flying around with pilots who have their heads buried in the cockpit. I will have to install it or quit flying. I will probably install it but I bet the number of aircraft never flown again will increase significantly in 2020. Bill K
