Re: Brake Cylinder Problem
Dave, you don't have to take the lower attach point loose for this. Just take the shaft loose from the rudder/brake pedal, unscrew the assembly from the top of the cylinder and pull it out. If you still have that dorky parking brake, this should be disconnected for ease of repair. Install the new re...

Re: Brake Cylinder Problem
... Sometime ago I had a right brake pedal that would go to the floor, usually at a most inopportune time. Finally replaced the lock-O-Seal..... No more problems. Was easy fix, just unscrew the top cap and pull the guts out, replace parts and slide back in. Thanks Ed, That’s pretty much what I gues...

Wow, the end of another era. I bought my pipes from Pat back in the early 80's. They have served well for the past 35 years. I won't tell you what I paid for them back then.

Re: Brake Cylinder Problem
Each brake pedal on the new-to-us 170B occasionally goes to the floor then pumps right back up. This particular airplane has McCauley brakes, but there is no leakage at the wheel cylinders. I’m assuming I need new piston o-rings and lock-o-seals in the master cylinders. I was looking on Aircraft Sp...

Re: Placard Questions
Thanks for the quick replies! I had looked through the parts catalog and owners manual (where I work that is where we document the decals on our machines), but didn't think to look at the AFM. Also, I don't believe I have the larger placard about normal and utility categories. Where does this go? I...

Re: Author Question - 170 Plane Problems
I hate to carry this thread in the wrong direction, but , I had a situation a few years ago. Was taxiing out for take off at Kansas City International when I had a valve stick. Fortunately there was no big iron in back of me and the kind controller let me spin around and go back to the GA FBO. I fou...

Re: Oil Pressure Indicates High
You really don't know what you have unless you check the calibration with a known accurate gage or a dead weight tester. I checked mine with a calibrated test gauge, from 10 to 30 psi it was accurate, then at 35 it read 36, 40 read 43, 45 read 50 and 50 read 55. I replaced gauge.

Re: Left the master on...
Back in the day, one of our favorite things to do at 170 fly-in's after a long day at the airport and on our way to a motel in the airport van, was to call out, "hey did you turn your master off "........ya got a lot of those blank eyed looks
