I don't think they will sulfate. Bill did you check to see if the battery will go down if you disconnect the ground (or on the bench)? You might have some parasite load draining it but I doubt it could be that much. I think you got a reject :(

I was only suggesting HD for the windows and not saying they're the best by any means. What I really likes was the Piper seal for the doors. I didn't find the BA-1055 on their site just now to be able to confirm that's what I used so I'll try to look up the number when I can get to it.

Send it back and use the Piper seal George told us about on the doors. Then HD for the window seals. I like the 1/2 round about 3/8" I think for the windows.

I disagree. If you are ready for an overhaul on the original engine anyway, you're going to drop $20K for a first-class job. Another $10-$15K isn't too bad considering the prop is about half of that, and the paperwork/labor the rest. Maule's are ugly and don't hold value like a 170. And 220 Frankli...

Curt, You need a new mechanic. Inspecting a mag is pretty basic and you do not need a special test bench for the inspection. There is a lot more to it than meets the eye Dick. Even though I have rebuilt and inspected mags I now prefer to leave it to a a magneto expert. Remember, spark + fuel and it...

Well Brad I'm looking closely at the overhaul ticket and they where installed in 5/1/98 but looking close they where actually overhauled 8/21/95. Nearly 3 years in storage. It looks like I was mistaken on the hours there are fewer with 361 hours since overhaul. This is why I didn't have them inspec...

(CLIP) Don't forget that in a single-strut, all-metal wing such as ours, that all that weight tries to twist the wing forward and trailing-edge up. The structure resists such torque/twist by using all metal skins which, in concert with ribs and spars, form "boxes" and which are anchored a...

Well I'm into a top on the O-470J now and I found one spalled lifter. My engine shop old-timer-guru-friend said if the lobes look good AND if your fingernail doesn't hang on the edge of the cam lobe (metal rolling off the edge) the cam is ok (not worn through the hardening) and just put in new lifte...

Re: Instrument Refurbishment

I had my instruments rebuilt by Otto Instruments, Ontario, California. These folks have been around since the 1960's and they are very reliable about workmanship and warrantee. Good-luck! Flight 1948 C170 N4236V #18592 Ditto on that. Richard just helped me out a lot in researching some old Lewis in...

If your prop has ben overhauled before a few times the blades will be smaller, or if you have a pretty large nick they will get smaller at overhaul which might effect performance. In which case I'd be buying a new prop for sure. At 25 years without prior overhaul expect "other problems found a ...

On the primer leak issue the o-rings just keep the fuel from leaking past the shaft and into the cockpit side. The plunger has a tapered end that hits a seat when closed to shut the fuel off to the cylinder side. There are also check valves in there. This is where it can be hard to detect so you'd w...
