Re: TCM IO-360 CONVERSION

My personal opinion is that the TCM IO-360 conversion is not worth the extra effort and money if you are going to use the 195 hp version. I know some will disagree with that statment and that is ok, its just my opinion. The conversion is a tremendus amount more work and a little more money than the ...

Re: PropGuard and float operations

I wish I could make it to Valdez. I had planned on going but my son has a big soccer tournament this weekend and I don't want to miss it. I'll have to settle for the pancake breakfast at Soldotna airport.

Re: PropGuard and float operations

Thats a great idea to use that as a chaff strip for baffle seals. I wonder if some of the accellerated wear you experienced on your 86" prop was due to the tip speed of your prop. Just thinking out loud. I have never tried using it myself. Shawn

Re: Annual surprise!

I don't think 4stripes is advocating floppy loose chains. If you adjust the chains tight with no weight on it then when you set it down the slack is barely perceptible. If you adjust the chain tight with it on the ground in just a matter of hours it will bend the steering ears on the tail wheel up s...

Re: TCM IO-360 CONVERSION

Pedro, I have not done much flying from strips at high altitudes. Most of my flying is out of strips at an altitude of 1000' or less. If I am light and have the big tires on it will climb out at about 1300-1400 FPM. If I am light with the small tires it will climb out at about 1700-1800 FPM. I do ho...

Re: PropGuard and float operations

I thought the same thing about the imbalance issue and am still sceptical of the stories I have heard about it coming off one blade in flight. However I have heard of a couple local guys that had one come off in flight and they claim they instantly new something was wrong cause it was really vibrati...

Re: TCM IO-360 CONVERSION

I have the constant speed prop on it. I don't recall exactly what all speeds I quoted back then. I have done more testing with my plane since then though and here is what I have found. With my plane on 31" Bushwheels with the fat Bushwheel tail wheel: 22" MP and 2300 RPM = 118 MPH @ about ...

Re: TCM IO-360 CONVERSION

If you look up XP mods web page they have some performance numbers on there. Other wise just do a search on this site and you will find quite a bit of discusion on it in the past. If you have a specific question I may be able to answer it. I have one in my plane. Shawn

Re: 180HP engine mount???

I don't right off hand. I installed a set earlier this winter on another 170B. Someone posted those P/N's a year or two ago on here. When I ordered mine I just did a search on our forum until I found that thread. I'll see if I can't find the numbers for you though. Shawn

Re: 180HP engine mount???

Harry did not buy out Avcon. He used to be an Avcon dealer for years and then developed his own STC. That is why the two conversions are so similar. Get rid of the old rubber bushings and install the aluminum ones, they are way better. Shawn

Re: Annual inspection and options

That guy is way out of line. Get your plane out of there. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night if I charged you even half what he is quoting. Some of the examples have already been mentioned. Another one that jumped out at me was 1.5 hours to time the mags. Should take 5 to 10 minutes. Years ago whe...

Again george we are talking soft field ops here. I have been in the situation many times when I had my stock motor where the strip was soft enough that it would just phisically not accellerate to lift off speed no matter how long the strip was. In this situation the only way to get the plane off the...

If you are on a soft field the last thing you want is your tail on the ground digging a corn row back there. That is like dragging an anchor. If you have a stock motor use 20 degrees and tail low til lift off. Then stay in ground effect until you reach Vx, once your obstacle is cleared bleed your fl...

Hi JR. Hey when I talked to you the other day about Bore Props for the 180hp on a Cub, I was refering to the 1A200/FA8245 that you mentioned. I should have clarified that. They have a great safety record. These are also sometimes refered to as club props because of how meaty they are. This is the pr...
