Re: 1954 Interior trim paint

Once upon a time I seem to remember Charlie Beyer in Tennessee finding Trooper Tan for his ‘54 B. His contact info should be in the directory. You can tell him I suggested you contact him.

Re: Glareshields

Miles: Do you still have the installation instructions for your Schroers' Glareshield? I'm remanufacturing one off a C-170A to fit my B, and curious how the wiring was supposed to be run down to switch panel. I won that glare shield in 1985 and it rode around loose above the instrument panel until ...

Re: Paint Shop Recommendations

Somehow I missed this thread before, but I second the work done at Mena. My paint job was done by Mena Aircraft Painting 6-7 years ago and still looks about as good as it did when I took delivery. I know others who have had their airplanes painted at several of the other shops on the field with simi...

Re: Magneto Malfunctions in-FLight

I had an acquaintance (a CFI) when I lived in Mississippi who had a mag on a Luscombe that either failed as George described or otherwise slipped time, resulting in an extremely rough running engine. I don’t recall the phase of flight but he attempted to make it to the airport, but stalled and crash...

Continental Motors

I wasn’t aware that Continental was around in the very early 1900’s. The truck this one is in is estimated to be from 1916.

The departure day for the convention is Saturday, July 22nd. If there’s an error published somewhere I need to get it corrected.

Thinking out loud...I suppose the absolute worst case scenario would be priming a hot engine and having a failed joint spray fuel on the exhaust..
There’s no need to prime a hot engine.

Re: Oil Sump Corrosion

I’ve seen older sumps with a steel baffle attached with fasteners similar to those that attach the data plate. Later ones like mine (that I know ro have come from an O-300D) has the baffle cast in. I’ve always assumed that the purpose is to smoothly divide the flow from the carburetor equally to the...

… FAA Advisory Circular 23-27 is a basis for using a quality automotive regulator as discussed in other threads. This was also brought to our attention by Bill? Andersen, FAA Inspector at the Benton Harbor, MI convention. One discussion about this is at https://forum.cessna170.org/forums/viewtopic....

Re: Brenham, TX C-170 Christmas Party

Karen and I visited Buddy and Jeanne McGown on our way home. Buddy had been out of the hospital only a day or two so he was still a bit weak, but with his sense of humor 100% intact he was improving quickly. Buddy celebrates his 98th birthday this coming Tuesday, and I’m sure he’d like hear from old...

Re: Got some history on my bird

I’ve posted this before but it’s been a while and this seems like an appropriate topic to repost it under. Evidently at one point in time every flight was entered in the maintenance logbooks, and the first three lines of this page are quite interesting:
