Re: Single Pilot Airbus
“a superior pilot is one who uses superior knowledge to avoid situations which require the use of his/her superior skill” While one who often argued against the 1500 hour ATP changes post-colgan, I’d say my justification was not financial. Simply put, any number is arbitrary…whether 1500 or 250. The...

Re: ADC Oil Screen
Well...I guess I'll revive this one since I started it in the first place, and pretty much as predicted, find myself in need of a screen... 64395206838__BD97C3B3-DB4D-4063-8B99-A0F4F200DBE7.jpg I'll reach out to the contact in the previous post tomorrow to see if he has any information. It appears t...

Oil Seep/Leak
Hey All, Since I've owned my airplane, it's always spit a bit of oil on the ground out the breather tube after shutdown, with nothing ever being present on the belly...so I'm pretty sure it's only at shutdown. Recently, in the last 10 or so hours, I've noticed an additional drip on the floor and ass...

Re: Airplane Flight Manual
Thanks for the continued discussion, all good points.
I think as George mentioned, probably best to plan instrument markings per the manufacturer of the airplane, and then have a knowledge of the the engine manufacturer limits also.

Re: Airplane Flight Manual
Thanks guys! Bruce, I’ve noticed just that, seem to be spread out. My current oil pressure gauge is only marked with the green range. There is no red line marked on either the pressure or temperature gauge. When I get home from this work rotation, I think I’m going to print out the AFM at the link y...

Airplane Flight Manual
Hey all, I have this single laminated page that's been kept in my glove box since I bought the airplane: IMG_1354.jpg I'm curious if someone could verify its authenticity, or its source if it is part of a larger document. I've got a copy of the "owner's manual" but it is also lacking some ...

Re: First Annual Done
Hey all, Got around to getting a borescope and trying my hand at taking a look. Here's the pics: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/13uGCEuB0EYOG22OE8w4uS16i2ai0jv_a?usp=sharing First time really doing anything like this, so not all the pics are perfect, and some may be multiples. They go in the...

Re: First Annual Done
That engine has seen very little operation over it's last two years. Fly the hell out of it. Change oil every 25 hours and do an analysis. It just might need to be "exercised" to get it back to better compressions. 100LL or Mogas? Any fuel additives being used? Sorry Jughead, missed the q...

Re: First Annual Done
Thanks for all the info guys. To speak to Jughead's points, I kind of had those thoughts early on in owning the airplane. I half expected the situation to improve with the amount it's flown since the last annual...nearly 100 hours, and from what I've come to understand, that's probably above average...

Re: First Annual Done
Thanks guys! No, the recent test was done by someone differently than the first two points. I was thinking along the same lines, it just seemed odd that all were a bit lower. I think I'll go down the road of investigating a little further, see if we can get a look at the valve itself and take anythi...

Re: First Annual Done
John,
Thanks for the link. Informative.
Unfortunately no, it wasn't scoped at the time. Sore subject, I wish that would have happened, but there was a bit of a communication issue and I wasn't available at the right times...
Probably worth doing that now...

First Annual Done
Hey all, Had the first annual completed on the new to me 53 170B I purchased this summer. The annual was signed off and things are reasonably well, the airframe is nice and clean and got complements from the IA. The engine showed signs of some future work needed. As it's my first airplane, a lot of ...

[ I’m curious, however, why ATC reported to FliteAware the 29.92 altitude, as my friend on the ground showed us the print-out that put us at 6K’ when we were actually on assigned-code and at 6500’) Note: The italicized comments above are an edit for clarity. I think this might be the issue. ADS-B t...

Re: Insurance
Just updated my record with Avemco as I hit 75 hours of tailwheel time. They lowered my premium to $1317. Liability limits are 100/1M/1M and it states the premiums for that are $399. Hull is at $62k, with the premium being $918. It would appear hull value has the bigger impact on the overall premium...
