Aoresteen, you have to mention how many times you have owned your own airplane. If this is your first time, then getting the plane to a level acceptable to you and your wife will be the most expensive initial cost if you do not find a plane exactly what you want. Annuals and periodic maintenance cos...

Fuel valve repair kit?

My fuel selector valve needs a set of o-rings, gaskets and grommets as seen in fig. 63 of the parts catalog. Is there a repair kit available?

Also I need a selector valve handle, anyone know where I can get one that is serviceable? Thanks!

Firewall Grommets

In the process of rebuilding the my 170b, I have misplaced(ok lost) the grommets for the engine controls at the firewall. Is there any replacements that can be used that are more advanced(less expensive) than the original ones? cessnaparts.com is charging upto $140 for shiels like PN#0353111-4. Ther...

Control cables, which is which?

When my aircraft was disassembled during restoration last year, the cables were not marked by the mech who has since left. Now the new mechanic is looking at the parts catalogue and the service manual(prior 62') and is unsure which is which. Some of the cables are shorter by about 1" compared t...

Rewiring whole plane, should I follow original scheme?

I will be rewiring the whole aircraft. What are your thoughts on the original wiring layout and hardware. What should I upgrade and what is best to be left alone? I am adding strobes and an engine monitor plus digital radios and transponder only so I'm inclined to just rewire using the original layo...

audio panel/intercom

If I only have 2 vhf radios, no adf or dme, do I need an audio panel or just make my own switch for com1&2 and another switch for phones or speaker? I already have a new 4 place intercom. I seem to remember a audio panel circuitry diagram in the 337' copies I got 2 years ago. What do you guys ha...

VFR only avionics, what setup?

Since I will be using the left side radio slot of the panel, how have you setup your avionics and what do you have for those who typically fly VFR only. I am looking at digital radios. Thanks!

Brand new or used avionics

I am about to restart my quest to finish my aircraft after a 1-1/2 year hiatus. Since the aircraft did not come with any serviceable radios, I am thinking of buying new or used digital ones that have a great reputaion for reliability. The following are my choices: nav/com1: kx 125 com2: icom 200 or ...

Fitting new fuel gauges, help!

Thanks for the insight guys! I have just found a good crank at 3,800. It seems like maintaining the original engine would be my best bet, cheapest too! Total cost would set me back 24K with new exhaust, 2 of my old cylinders remanned for spare and the engine/accessories majored to new specs with new...

O-300 crank failed/ do I upgrade?

My engine arrived at western skyways last march. Since then, they discovered that my crank was good but the flange was bent a bit. When they had it straighened, it cracked and since then it's been almost 1 month and they still have not found a replacement crank. I am frustrated as you can see. Since...
