Re: Omaha, NB Airports

The airport at Omaha North is a nice little airport. Kind of out of the way. You would need to go all of the way accross town to get to the museum. You would be closer to go to Epley and get a car from there. The general aviation is on the east side of the field. Omaha North used to belong to a frie...

Re: Security: Let's ask ourselves....

Leave your keys in your car, have it stolen and wrecked, and see who is liable. And knowing that, see how many people feel sorry for you after it happens! Jon

Re: Wingnut in Mena

There was a large tornado. Very destructive. 2 deaths, several injuries. I haven't seen any pictures yet. Saw some quotes from the airport manager, so I fear it was hit. Jon

Re: forward Fuse Skin Thickness?

George, Do you know if these reinforcements are still available? If so I would like to get some and put them on my cowl. I tried without success to run the part numbers, but didn't get any favorable responses. I would be interested to see if any others on the site have them on their plane, and if th...

Re: 76" prop on a 180HP

Contact David Stoots. He has an STC for the 80" Hartzell prop on a Lyc 0360. I have one on my plane and really like it. No clearance problems. Has worked flawless for 4 years now. Takes a dampener with the blades. Jon

Re: Texas Beach Landings

Pretty cool George. I have done alot of flying in that area but only landed on Matagorda Island a couple of times. A friend of mine was coming back from Galvaston, scud running about 100 feet off the water trying to get to his strip, when he got socked in by a cold front. He spent the night on that ...

Re: Texas Beach Landings

Made many landings on San Jose island which is just North of Port Aransas. It is State owned, but leased by The Bass Brothers. Many Presidents, VPs, and VIPs, have stayed and hunted there. They keep some exotic animals and stock animals on the island. We land on the Gulf side below the high tide wat...

Re: forward Fuse Skin Thickness?

Thanks for the replies, I hope I didn't hijack this thread! Seems this is a common problem for alot of our aircraft. Looks like I won't be welding. George, I didn't realize there was an SB on this problem, good find. Jon

Re: forward Fuse Skin Thickness?

Del, Thank you for your response. The bottom hole on the bottom cowl was already cracked, (it was that way when I bought the plane). I have not had any other cracks, thank goodness. I am going to stop drill and patch both corners like they were before, but with a thicker patch. I am also going to ex...

Re: forward Fuse Skin Thickness?

Del, Is there any particular reason you say tighten from bottom to top? I always put on my bottom cowl with losely fitted screws, then the top cowl with losely fitted screws, make any adjustments, then start with the middle screws at the top and work my way down. I don't want to sound argumentative ...

Re: RC Flying

Rick, Do you know if you can get just the cowl for the 170B you are building? I have the plans and plan to scratch build off of them, but having a source for a cowl would be great. I have built and flown several 1/4 scale models. All scratch built, usually from someones plans, (I think they technica...

Wish I would have known you were looking for one of those. I have a good one in my "junk" box at the hanger you could have had. (you know what they say about "one mans junk"). Jon

Re: Fuel vent relocation to wing

A point well taken. Thanks for the art work. Looks alot like an old girlfriend from La Cross, Wi. Not arguing the point but asking a question. If the work was signed off on a 337 form and returned as airworthy, even though it did not follow the SB exactly, does it make it unairworthy? Would that dep...

Re: Fuel vent relocation to wing

My point exactly. Cessna made a very weak attempt the first go around. Having TWO caps is another way of dealing with the problem, but ONE will do. Thus having two caps is only as you said, redundancy, and not necessary. I never said there was a restriction to using two vented caps. My comment on th...
