Ethanol Powered Airplane Certified In Brazil
For those of you who do not have experience with etanol as fuel here it goes. Engine compression is a little bit biger than a gasoline engine. It burns a little bit more fuel. The big problem is that ethanol is corosive. It will eat even carburators specially treated for ethanol. What I was told tha...

Power Management on the O-300
How do you normally run your engine on climb, cruise, and descent. Do you use full power while climbing all the way to cruise altitude? What altitude do you normally fly on a normal long cross country flight, assuming you can choose from sea level and up? How do you cruise, full power, or do you kee...

Everything went fine. We were in Ruidoso for a day and then went to Albuquerque for New Year's eve. Back to Ruidoso three days later. High altitude flying is quite a chalange. We took off with 17-20 knot wing from the west (upslope) and density altitude at 7800'. I wouldn't do this next time. In the...

Flying in the soup
Being a VFR pilot with almost 200 hrs I never flew in IMC
Today I went out for the first time with my CFII to fly in IMC. It was a great experience to be more confident in case of an emergency. I would suggest everybody to do the same. Next on my list is basic aerobatics.

Flying to a Ski Resort
I am planning on a flight to a ski resort(Ruidoso-NM). This will be the first time I adventure flying to the mountains and temperatures below freezing. I have 170 hrs TT almost all in flat south Texas and will be flying VFR only. What should I be considering? I currently use aeroshell 100W I believe...

When does an engine needs an overhaul?
When does an engine needs an overhaul? There are several indications that the engine is comming to the end of its life. But what do people really look for to decide an engine is to go to overhaul. Low oil pressure, High oil temperature, Low cylinder compression, Loss of power. Which is the factor th...

Panel light dimmer reostat warming up
Yesterday I found that the reostat gets very warm when the lights are set to low intensity. I can't even touch it. I think that the capacity of the lighting installed has exceeded the reostat capacity. Has anybody run through this problem? What could be done to fix it?
