Very sad news!
Each time I went to the forums I would wonder if there would be an aviation or life gem from Blueldr.
Always fun to read his free spirited outlook on life and regulations. I will miss his wit greatly.
Rest in peace Blueldr !!

Re: Can a B Model be slipped at a less than 40 degree?
Thanks Bruce! Your stabilizer design and placard discussion certainly emphasize that slipping with flaps is not a good idea and got stressed more and more stringently by Cessna as time went on. Just not a good idea to slip with flaps period. I have to say I enjoy slipping the Champ and would bet you...

Re: Can a B Model be slipped at a less than 40 degree?
Cessna went to a max of 30 degrees of flap at some time during their manufacture of the 172. I think they used the same flap as before just limited the amount that can be applied. So did they remove the suggestion/restriction in the POH of slips with full, 30 degree, flaps at that time? Unfortunatel...

Re: ForeFlight Scout
Sold 2353D, it was heart breaking, in 2012 as could see would not pass medical. Bought 85hp Champ and have been flying Sport Pilot until now. Got my Basic Med in June and joined a club that has a Champ, T-Craft, 150, and Skyhawk. I can only fit in the Champ and Skyhawk with these old bones but still...

Re: ForeFlight Scout
Bought one at Oshkosh. Up to now have been using ForeFlight in a 182 with friends Stratus S2. Scout very easy to setup with my Ipad. Have used in the 182 and in my champ with a battery pack. Both environments the display and information, traffic and weather, are just the same as the Stratus. So far ...

Re: Spin Training — Seeking Advice
Having spun a number of other aircraft over the years I thought the 170 would just be another. As mentioned it is dossal and somewhat difficult to get into the spin. The big surprise to me in my 1952B was the cowling. it slopes down from the windshield to the spinner at a fairly good angle. As the s...

Re: Hello from Boston
Christine, Gene is absolutely correct - if you decide to take lessons closer to Boston then Ed Urbanowski at Sterling (3B3) is fantastic. Have known him for 25 years and he has been instructing in tailwheels for 40 years. He now also has a beautiful PT17 Stearman that he uses for instruction. I am l...

Re: Hello from Boston
Christine,
Just curious -
Are you working out of Norwood with the J3 or someplace like Mansfield or Taunton?
I guess what I am really fishing for is are you learning on hot top or grass as the learning
curve is a lot tougher on a hard surface with a cub in my opinion.

Re: What is this lever on my engine?
BL - Getting off subject but I think many will enjoy this article about an ex air force jet pilot taking similar prop training today to finally check out in a P51 at Triple Tree Aerodrome (SC00). Cub, Stearman, BT13, AT6, and finally a P51. Great 7K grass airfield and the picture of the Stearman and...

Re: Cabin Entry Step
For what it is worth:
I am 310 lbs and never had any step problems with the 52B model I had for twelve years.
Seats and rollers always worked fine even though they were under a load.
I have a 1947 champ (tube and fabric) now and also no problems with the step on it.

BL -
You sold the piano key set to me at a very fair price 8-10 years years ago.
As I wound up not using the keyboard I sent it to the association to be
auctioned of at one of the conventions. I think it was Branson MO.

Re: How many hours a year do you fly your 170?
For the ten years I owned N2353D I flew between 50 and 100 hours a year usually closer the 100 hr mark. With the Sport Pilot Champ I have now I put in between 50 and 75 hours as it is more sensitive to wind and weather. Any trip is a lot longer in the Champ but still a lot of fun - get to have a rea...
