I would contact Johnny Williams (a member) in San Angelo, Texas. At one time Johnny was a good source for such parts. Several years ago, I replaced a cracked C-170 tail wheel bracket with a Bird Dog tail wheel bracket. It was a stronger bracket.

George,

I am grateful to you for the time and energy you put into the Cessna 170 web site.

Also, I am very grateful to live in this great country which allows peolple to freely pursue their own interest.

God Bless America!

Consumer Reports list the Garmin c 330 as a best buy. I just purched a c 340 which is one step up from the c 330. The main difference is the c 330 tells you to turn right in 500 feet and the c 340 tells you to trun right on Elm street in 500 feet. That added feature cost another $20 from the supplie...

The Texas Chapter of the Antique Airplane Association has a large number of members in the Dallas Fort Worth area. Dan Linn has a nice 1955 C-170 B and Jim Austin has a nice Stinson 108 with a 220 Franklin. These guys are based at North West Regional. This is not a large commerical airport. It is ho...

George, I think your list rates an A +. The items on your list make the 170 a safer and more reliable airplane and I agree with your opinion that the pros and cons should be discussed else where. I have most of the items but not all of the items you listed. Also, I think modifications such as Horton...

Bruce,

I have no experience with concrete. However, from my days in the Army and with relatives all along a line from Wichita Falls to Jackboro (Post Oak), I recall Wichital Falls is hotest palce on earth in the summer and the coldest plact on earth in the winter.

I certainly agree if your have not insured your airplane for its full value.
I would recommed carring liability only if you are not going to carry hull for the complete value of your airplane.

If your C-170 is insured I would file a claim with your insurance company. They will go after all of the parties who are liable for the damage to your C-170 which should include the renter of the hanger where the fire occurred and the airport owner/operator. If your C-170 is not insured, the task of...

Bad Shopping Experience

Greg, Do not give up! There are a lot of good 170's that will be put on the market for what ever reason. You need to be able to go look at them timely and be willing to walk a way from those that do not meet your standards. When I was searching for my current 170 which took me well over a year to fi...

Aerobatic C170

I have not be a real pilot (professional pilot) for 35 years. However I was in the 135th EMU's during my Army days. The 135th was a helicopter unit in Viet Nam with both Austrilian Navy and U.S. Army personnel. The Austrilian pilots had a story about one of their pilots when they first received Huey...

C-170 Gross Weight Increase

Several years ago I purchased Del-Air's 180 HP conversion kit and STC for my C-170 B (Mfg 12-1955) which I have yet to install. At that time the Del-Air 180 HP STC did not have an increase in gross weight for the C-170. The Del-Air 180 HP conversion kit for certain C-172's did have a 200 pound gross...

Increased Fuel Capacity - C 170

Del-Air has STC's to modify your existing C-170 fuel tanks and increase the usable fuel capacity. One such STC'd adds 7 gallons of usable fuel per tank for an increase of 14 gallons of usable fuel.

You should contact Harry Dellicker owner of Del-Air at 559-784-9440.

Insurance

This is my opinion only. With the exception of my aircraft insurance, I have all my insurance with USAA. USAA simply does not have the experience with aircraft (aviation) insurance as do insurance brokers and insurance companies specializing in aircraft insurance. I carry $50,000 hull plus the recom...
