I have used them on my plane in the summer time. I have found it will drop the oil temp about 10 in cruise flight. In general I don't see a need for this small of a drop and only put it on for really hot days. On cool day the oil temp will not get high enough with it installed. I also have some mods...

door handle

some may consider an auto door handle to be an unapproved part. while it is the same as the cessna part it did not go through the cessna quality control, and is not an aircraft part.

The winter kits need to be used with care and planning. Since they tune the airflow into the cowling for cruise flight, ground and climb will tend to overheat the engine. If flying on skis or a climb prop the airflow is reduced due to the slower airspeed, and you may need larger holes in the winter ...

thank you for the info, being able to use the other cowling opens up a bigger pool of parts at the salvage yards.

cowlings

I am in need of a new cowling for my 55 170b. I have not found anything good at the salvage yards. So, will an older model cowling work with my engine baffles or would I need to change them too.

paint

Other things to consider when repainting. Some colors and paint types sun fade more than others. think about what the colors will look like with a couple of years of fade. Also consider sticking to very standard colors, if you need to do a repair painting will be easy. I painted my plane with a matc...

oil cooler

I agree with the plan of taking care of the cause of the high oil temps, before adding extra methods to cool the oil. Knowing the cause of the problem is the first step to repairing it. Since I have several items installed that slow my airspeed/cooling airflow below what cessna planned for at cruise...

oil cooler

I have installed an oil filter cooler from jc whitney Part number 81zx4694y. this is a finned heat sink that slips over the filter, the picture on their web site explains this pretty good. this has lowered my oil temp from 205-210 to 185-190. I had plans for adding a shroud and scat tube, like the r...

I have my 170b on federal 3000 wheel skis and plan on doing some flight training with a student soon. I would like to know if spins can be safely, and if there are any unusual handling with the skis and spins.
