Re: What did you buy for your 170 today?
Bought a Baggage door off of a ‘61 172 from Wentworth in Minnesota. Check is in the mail to Del-Air for the STC. Talked to my IA and “we can do this.” Thanks to George and this forum for giving me the information and confidence to pursue this mod (when it gets a little warmer  ). Why don't you...

Re: Not Bad For A Navy Guy
Charlie your comment; I can't help but think of another high performance pilot in our group who had an unfortunate landing incident. At the time I couldn't believe it, how could a high time pilot make a mistake. I had my own when I thought I could handle anything and obviously in hindsight it was a...

Re: Weighing my 170B Couple Questions
I had mine weighed with full fuel and subtracted the weight of 37 gallons of fuel to determine the empty weight. That way I know what it weighs with full fuel regardless of what the actual unusable fuel is. Miles, how did the new W&B compare with the old one ? She went from 1358 lb to 1383, a g...

Good story Richard. Make sure you double check your oil cap whenever you add oil. That can really make a mess.....somebody told me that

Re: It begins.....wings off
I had my rudder pedals bead blasted and painted in 2 pac black gloss. Ok it looked good but for some reason the r/h pilots pedal paint wears off only. I thought maybe in flight I was correcting a yawing incorrect rig aircraft . No, in flight I often take my feet off the pedals . Aircraft flying str...

Re: Sudden roughness during cruise
Unfortunately not. The cylinder that came off the plane couldn't be repaired. My normal mechanic had a good condition slightly used Millennium cylinder that I dropped off at Poplar Grove this week. Crossing my fingers that I'll be up and flying for New Years. I can't recall ever meeting a "nor...

Re: Fixing an unusual cabin heat mod
Another viable option for more cabin heat is to find a donor airplane and salvage the later style heat system. Late 170B and all 180 had a better heat valve and firewall header system. The stripped-out 1954 C180 fuselage at Air Salvage of Dallas at Lancaster, TX Airport, KLNC, that I got my baggage...

Re: What did you buy for your 170 today?
Ok Ed, I stand corrected, it’s YOUR fault we’re all lusting after baggage doors!  And by the way, thank you very much for leading the pack, Cessna should have done it from the beginning. That's right Richard, Cessna should have done this. Evidently none of the execs ever tried to struggl...

Re: What did you buy for your 170 today?
I put this one in thirty five years ago, before it was fashionable. Door and frame was 75.00. Chuck Brady found it for me. This was part of my practical test for A&P.

Yep, just a number, but makes me a flying octogenarian. Didn’t think I would ever make this. Thank you and all for the birthday greetings.hilltop170 wrote:Happy Birthday Ed!
