Re: Landing speed

...I have to laugh but I still wonder if I could land a nose dragger... Just full stall land it like you would your 170; DON"T try a wheel landing! 8O Dad used to tell me that in the late 1950's anyone who was vertical and self-propelled could walk onto an airport and rent a J3. However, if yo...

Re: yoke freeplay

I wish you guys would knock this crap off !! I guess I will have to go out and check mine now. I don't want to move that wheel anymore than I have to on the way to SD. I have had this airplane so long (41 years) that the little things happen and you don't really notice them until someone brings up t...

Re: O-300A Oil Leak from Carb

This is also the area where the oil sump will show leakage if is corroding through, very common in the O-300 with the magnesium sump. The sump will usually corrode through just forward of the carburetor pad where water collects in the sump. This is true, but does not address the problem of oil leak...

Re: I Soloed in my 170 B last night!

As far as I know, the C-145 was replaced with a 0-300 a few years back, there is paperwork on that, maybe they kept the the total assy together, it was done before the guy I bought it from bought it. That would be my guess. Don't quote me on this, but I don't think the bigger mufflers came out unti...

Re: I Soloed in my 170 B last night!

Thanks everyone! A few things first, the small wheels and pants are going to have to go. There are not many grass runways here, its gravel or rocks for the most part. I am having issues now on the tail surfaces and I'm looking for suggestions to protect the leading edges. Unfortunately, there are n...

Re: Convention flight

[... Hi Frank, Well the route we are following will be around 2200 miles, so figuring about 40 hours. Who know what the fuel price will be by then. I figure this may be one of the last really long trips we will do in the 170......thats how I rationalize the trip anyway. See ya in a couple months. L...

Re: Convention flight

Eddie, what are you doing, trying for the long distance award  How many hours are you estimating? I won't even approach what the fuel costs may be  Maybe, if we get really lucky, the fuel prices will level out or maybe ( ) moderate a bit by July-----sure hope so  Hi Frank...
