What's the jury's verdict on whether or not I use a chamfered washer?
The old cracked Cessna brackets on the tail are countersunk and had the washers on them.
The new brackets I ordered are the L-19 bracket and are also countersunk.
Should I follow the 170b IPC and not use the washer?

Headliner Replacement?
I need a new headliner for my 1956 170b. What are my options and what are your suggestions? I frequently fly with dirty mountain bikes in the back, so looking for something which would be easy to clean & durable. On Aircraftspruce.ca, there are no pictures listed for the headliners, nor is there...

How To Remove Vertical Stab?
Well, my rear spar brackets are broken, see thread here: https://forum.cessna170.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=16763 I'm having to remove my entire vertical stabilizer and rudder to replace them. Figured at the same time, it makes sense to repaint the tail as it's in rougher shape than the rest of the ...

Re: Cracked Vertical Stab Bracket
Reece, while this does not apply in EVERY comparison between models, … notice that the 170 PN is 03 31124 and the L-19 PN is 06 31124 Cessna Part numbers are related to Drawing numbers…and the last Five digits reference that drawing…the first two digits refer to model applicability. This is just mo...

Re: Cracked Vertical Stab Bracket
Reece, -Good catch on finding the crack. I would suggest stripping the paint there to confirm that it is not just the paint that is cracked. Quite unlikely that it is just the paint but wouldn't hurt to check. If the one side is cracked it would be worth your time to strip the paint from the other ...

Cracked Vertical Stab Bracket
On my walk around today, I noticed the main bracket which holds my vertical stabilizer has a small crack in it. What to do? Anyone experienced this? I don't push/pull my plane by the tail, and there was no harsh landings, cross winds, or turbulence. I never spin the aircraft or stress it unnecessari...

Extended Baggage Compartment
Looking to purchase an extended baggage compartment for my 170b.
I will be going with Selkirk as it's the cheaper option.
Anyone happen to have one lying around they're looking to sell?

Re: Cowling & Wing Screws?
Reece, The NAS228-8 and NAS228-12 are obsolete brazier head structural screws. The -8 indicates the screw is .531" overall length under the head, and the -12 indicates a length of .781" according to Genuine Aircraft Hardware . NAS228-12 screws are still available from Univair . Later Cess...

Re: Cowling & Wing Screws?
MS27039C screws are stainless steel Manufactured to MILS6050 or MIL8695. Equivalent to NAS 220 https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/hapages/MS27039.php I'm confused— The IPC lists the top wing screws as NAS228-12 & NAS228-8. I don't know if I need stainless or not? What are the p/n's as the I...

Re: Cowling & Wing Screws?
The screws that hold the fuel tank cover on are NAS structural screws and should not be replaced with stainless steel hardware. These screws and the panel they hold in place perform the function of tying the front and rear spar together as well as the butt rib to the next outboard rib. Thanks for t...

New Flap Tracks
I need new flap tracks & rollers for my 56 170b. Both flap tracks have significant wear and make 'clunking' noises as they roll through the 40 degrees, catching on wear notches in the tracks. I'm unable to find the flap tracks or rollers in the parts catalog. Can anyone assist me in telling me w...

Re: Alternator Upgrade
Reece, the most important thing you can buy with your alternator upgrade is the approval to make this change in the form which would likely be a STC. You just can't buy a Ford alternator and regulator and install it for example. The approval will specify the voltage regulator you need as well as an...
