Re: Beringer Brakes?

Thanks for the insight, all. My dad also has the Beringers on his Lancair and really loves them. I just sent a message to Beringer and this was their reply:

“There is progress on the Cessna 170 and it is in the EASA certification process now.

Hope to have Q1 next year.”

Beringer Brakes?

Has anyone done a field approval for the Beringer brake system? I know they're a little overkill for a 170, but we have them in another plane and love them. They currently have an STC for the 180/185 series and I think the wheel bolt pattern matches the 170B gear legs. Any thoughts?

Re: Airworx 180HP O-300 STC

I just sent an email to Airworx regarding the O-300 modification. Apparently they will not be pursuing an STC, but will modify the engine under a 337. Here’s the information I received: Just for the sake of information: we will not be pushing forward with an STC package. HOWEVER! We do have authoriz...

Re: Spinner help

Well, just pulled the spinner off my 170 and found another cracked back plate. It was replaced less than 70 hours ago and the whole thing was dynamically balanced after installing the new back plate. All I can figure is the weight required to balance everything is causing undue stress on the spinner...

Re: Airworx 180HP O-300 STC

I see that pic of an engine on their dyno.. No baffling? No fans? How do they prevent local overheating? That would be concerning on a new engine. (might be the wifi I’m on today…no other pics display) What rpm do they obtain that HP rating on an O-300? (I’m thinking a typical installation using a ...

Re: Airworx 180HP O-300 STC

Looks like Airworx just posted a video of the O-300 on their dyno. Initial reports are 164HP, looking at about 172HP after break-in. Also looks like he’ll sell the STC to anyone with the caveat it is applied during engine overhaul.

Re: EGT setup

My single EGT is not very useful. It validated my instructor’s leaning technique. Lean to max RPM and push the knob in about a half a knuckle and you’ll be about 100 degrees rich of peak. The engine is so simple and reliable, I’m afraid of messing that up by being able to micromanage every CHT and E...

Re: Questionable Practice…?

This oil filter shortage has piqued my curiosity. What about removing the STC’d oil filter adapter and replacing the original oil screen? Would that require another 337 to be legal?

Re: Your Top 10 Aviation movies of all time

I’m going to have to respectfully but strongly disagree with the previous contributors. Top Gun Maverick was amazing. Top Gun is the greatest aviation film of all time. It’s an airplane movie for people who wouldn’t otherwise like airplane movies. The soundtrack is epic. To round out my top 10 (in n...

Re: What did you buy for your 170 today?

It’s not really a purchase, but the bird is finally getting the polished spinner she deserves. The cost was the better part of a day spent with some sand paper and the polishing wheel.

Re: Back Seat Attachment Question

We just tackled the aft floor nutplate replacement this week. Thanks to DaveF for the great pictures and the idea for securing the nutplate. It seemed like the best solution considering the space available.
