Re: Donaldson air filter
Can you share info on the part number of the Donaldson air filter and where you can get it? Does it take a STC?

Re: Single place rear seat in 170B
I put a single airframe innovation seat in several years ago. Works well as I rarely have need for more than three seats. I put it on left side so there is lots of room to load from right door. Highly recommend. And probably lost 25 lbs. I wasn’t aware of that option. I found a website for them pre...

Re: Single place rear seat in 170B
Yes, you have a couple options. There are folding rear jump seats available from F. Atlee Dodge and Lake View Aero. Some google searching will shows some pictures and I linked a discussion from another forum below. One factor to consider is with the Lake View you can still install your bench seat ba...

Mine is in the right wingtip along with a WAT Orion 650 nav/strobe light. Works great.

Re: What are y'all using for push to talk?
Here are a few more pictures of how others have added a PTT. I’m still deciding how I will do mine. This one uses an adel clamp to mount the switch bracket. IMG_5012.jpeg The following one looks like there is only one screw so maybe this one might be using epoxy. IMG_4589.jpeg IMG_4590.jpeg IMG_4591...

Re: What are y'all using for push to talk?
My Telex velcro ptt’s have deteriorated….plastic coil coating is separating from wires making a mess. Time for better solution. Has anyone tried to epoxy a metal bracket to their yoke in lieu of drilling holes for the bracket? I haven’t done it, but I would be concerned that if the epoxy let go it ...

Re: EAA - FAA Program Enables Using Some Off-The-Shelf Parts
Here is a copy of the work instruction that was linked in the EAA article. If I'm reading it right, it is different than what we have done in the past with the AC's. It looks like you have to send a letter to the ACO for FAA approval. EAA article https://www.eaa.org/eaa/news-and-publications/eaa-new...

Any chance we could get the maintenance forum recorded or streamed this year for those of us unable to attend?

Re: 75th Reunion Celebration group parking at Airventure 202
I was hoping to catch the last few days of the convention before Airventure, but my work/vacation situation probably won't allow it. Does anyone know if there will be any kind of 170 owner/pilot/member gathering at Oshkosh? Maybe the Sunday night before the show?

Re: RC Allen Mini6
I believe it comes down to what instruments the RC Allen part can be primary for in a panel. For example, a Garmin G5 AI version can only legally replace either an attitude indicator or a turn and bank indicator. It cannot replace both or anything else like airspeed indicator or altimeter. That is a...

Re: Alternator Upgrade
And here I am over here running a 12A generator ;) I did make my situation better by replacing all lights with LED lights. That allowed me to put in other avionics like a GTX 375 and dual G5's. I was able to show on paper during the installation that everything I put in consumed less current than wh...

Re: Master Switch Piano Key Failure
Beware, to remove the piano keys you need access to two screws that are behind the plexiglass on the panel (one on each side of the throttle). You can either remove the plexiglass (which requires messing with throttle, mixture, etc.) or you can drill holes in the plexiglass where the screws are to b...

Here is another option that you can easily take with you: https://www.aircraftheaters.com/ Here are a few videos of a guy in central Iowa who has done the milkhouse heater and these twin-hornet heaters and some cool infrared images of them at work. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLAYm4FlnXrjw...

Re: Oil Pan Heater Pad
One advantage to to a sump heating pad or cylinder wall heating bands like the Reiff option is that they go with you. If you end up tied down outside overnight, many times you can get close enough to an electrical outlet to borrow an extension cord from the FBO (or take one with you). https://www.re...
